What is Writer?

Writer is a full-stack generative AI platform for enterprises. It empowers business functions — support, operations, sales, HR, and marketing — to increase productivity while helping to ensure compliance.

The Writer platform consists of the following components:

  • Palmyra, the Writer-built family of transparent and auditable LLMs, is benchmarked on the Stanford HELM, and fine-tuned for specific industries.

  • Writer Knowledge Graph, a graph-based approach to retrieval-augmented generation, grounds generative AI with company-level context by connecting the platform to internal data sources. According to Writer it achieves fewer hallucinations than traditional RAG approaches that use vector retrieval.

  • AI guardrails enforce legal, compliance, and brand rules, so users get accurate, usable, AI-generated work they can trust.

  • A flexible application layer makes it easier to build custom apps for any workflow.

  • APIs, desktop experiences, and a ecosystem of extensions make generative AI available in all of the places employees work.

The enterprise-grade platform doesn’t use the organization's data in model training and complies with SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA, PCI, GDPR, and Privacy Shield. Writer's deployment can be Writer-managed and customer-managed. Writer deploys a team of experts to help customers achieve successful adoption, including onboarding, user training, use case scoping, and data processing. Writer states that its enterprise users currently include Vanguard, Intuit, L'Oreal, Accenture, Dropbox, and Salesforce.

Writer has become an invaluable tool for my small marketing businesses. It creates copy that does not feel computer-generated, it feels human. It is quick, great quality and inexpensive. I would recommend Writer to anyone looking for an AI tool that does not sound like AI. A real game changer for small businesses.
  • Creates user-friendly content
  • Minimal mistakes
  • Great research
  • Sometimes it crashes
  • It should be easier to see how many words you have left out of your monthly package.
  • Use emojis without encouragement
Writer is great if you already have content but you want it rewritten in a different tone or to include more detail. It could be better at including emojis for Instagram friendly content. I also use Writer to summarise work and come up with titles. It is automatically written in American English so it's worth checking spellings.

I use Writer to research and create an outline for blog posts. I also use it to test out web copy or social media copy, write in different tones, and transcribe audio files.
  • Writing in different tones
  • Humanizing AI content
  • Great content
  • The interface lags sometimes
  • Better audio transcription
Ability to write different tones and write humanized content.

I use Writer to help me summarize content such as meeting transcripts and other long pieces of content. After I summarize the information I use it to send as a follow up to the audience as a way to continuously keep them informed of what they've already seen or missed out.
  • Summarize content
  • Create cross referencing between multiple sources
  • would be awesome to allow it to add a URL as a source so it would be able to reference live content rather than copy and pasted content
  • I'd love for it to integrate with other solutions such as MS CoPilot
  • Seamless integration with MS Teams for summarizing transcriptions easier would be huge
Writer is great at helping me gather information and sort it into smaller chunks. I've not used it for actually building new content so I can't comment on that yet.
My favorite new use case that I'm using it daily on is cross referencing multiple sources to generate a single output.
I've tried using it to generate tables/graphs with no luck. Co-pilot struggles with that too.

I've used Writer previously at a creative content firm and now as a solo consultant/freelancer for developing B2B technical content. I've used it for blog development, social media summary content, and content quality assurance. By far, the best feature has been the writing refinement and style support. It is extremely useful for deeper technical content.
  • Content refinement and quality control
  • Ideation and "beating the blank page"
  • Content summaries and generation
  • Sometimes, the workflows could be a bit smoother
  • Library and knowledge management organization
  • Tone of voice control needs better training
I always recommend Writer when discussing content management and generative AI with colleagues. Writer is the best B2B content platform I've discovered.

I've found it less useful from a social media management content generation platform, with platforms like Taplio (limited to LinkedIn) being better. But I expect that's to come (hopefully).

I use Writer as a freelance editor for a marketing agency. It works alongside the free version of Grammarly in my company's CMS.
  • Inclusive language
  • Punctuation suggestions
  • AI Rewriting
  • Grammar and formatting
  • The correction highlights don't always underline perfectly. Minor issue.
  • Writer can miss some obvious grammar issues that Grammarly also misses (periods, extra spaces)
  • Writer lacks English variants.
Writer is the ultimate partner to Grammarly's free version. It catches all the commas and semi-colons that Grammarly won't. It also has the best use of inclusive language suggestions I have seen.

Writer's AI suggestions are good, too. It provides plenty of options for tone, voice, and complexity of writing. Overall, Writer's Chrome extension integrates well with most text fields on the internet. It isn't perfect with my company's CMS, but that's something unique to their formatting—Writer's underlines actually go through the text.

I work in Marketing and produce content for our company website and social media. I have used Writer to structure blog outlines, social media posts, and to brainstorm on titles. I also use the re-wording function to improve writing quality or to spark ideas. I have found it most helpful in drafting blog structures - even if I don't use the content, Writer gives me a shape that I can work within.
  • Brainstorming titles
  • Writing social media copy
  • Structuring blog posts
  • i do find the organisation a bit confusing, like the functions available in 'ask Writer' being separate to the main window. there were lots of functions i wasn't able to find intuitively that we needed a support call for
  • asking for a summary of key points doesn't always pick up the main points
it's great for creating structures and sparking inspiration.

the widget is a bit annoying because we work across US and UK english, so it is constantly highlighting regional spelling issues that aren't always relevant, and the pop-up blocks my vision of the text i'm working on.

i like it best for creating social media posts and struturing longer pieces of writing. the blog helper is fantastic.

I'm frequently testing new AI platforms for my business, and Writer focusses on what I need most: writing. As a solopreneur, I do not have access to the Enterprise features, but I find tremendous value in membership. Writer helps me analyze documents, create summaries, refine my brand voice, and produce great writing. I use the Snippets feature to store text clauses I use repeatedly in contracts and propsals. I have a Voice Profile for my brand voice, that is also embedded into the Rewrite tool so that anywhre I'm writing online, I can be consistent.
  • Rewrite tool is incredibly helpful; both in the Writer environment and the Google Chrome extension. Not buggy or laggy like other extensions I've tried.
  • Ask Writer allows me to engage with documents in a conversational manner, instead of spending time crafting and sharpening my prompts.
  • Quality responses from Ask Writer. Unlike other GPTs that are riddled with mistakes and hallucinations, I can use Writer confidently without being paranoid about triple-checking my work. I've used Writer for one year now and only found one error in that time.
  • Integration of SEO tools and Keyword Research tools would be helpful
  • Some features are only available to Enterprise plans, making them inaccessible to solopreneurs and micropreneurs
  • I'd love to be able to create a word bank of common phrases and expressions I use to help keep my brand voice feeling authentic
Although I don't have access to Entreprise tools, I believe this would be an excellent tool for in-house communication teams and marketing groups. I'd also recommend it to anyone who wants to improve their writing clarity and consistency. Writer is a helpful companion when writing long-form articles, blog posts, and reports.

I use Writer primarily for content creation, particularly for social media, email, and website marketing copy. On a daily basis, I'm asking Writer to draft social post copy to promote our very technical blog articles. Monthly and quarterly, I ask Writer to draft compelling newsletter copy for our brands. I'm now beginning to use Writer to draft new website copy for a slew of landing pages.
  • Writer applies our writing style to copy I'm working on in browser tabs, ensuring I stay true to our voice.
  • Writer is able to quickly skim full blogs via a single link to use them as source material for drafting marketing copy I need.
  • Writer is my own business version of ChatGPT that keeps our sessions secure within the business.
  • I'd love if the Writer extension for Chrome could use the web page I'm on as a source for whatever drafting I need done in the sidebar.
I think Writer is perfect for marketing professionals who need to draft copy about dense topics and subject matter, such as within tech and product companies. It bridges the gap of knowledge between marketer and engineer and saves the former countless minutes to bring what the latter develops to the marketplace.

I use it for brainstorming, helping me concept ideas, playing around with headline ideas. I also use it to summarize and find key takeaways of transcripts from speaking events. It helps me work faster and gets my brain cells warmed up and buzzing quickly. :)
  • Ask Writer -- helps me unpack and brainstorm all kinds of ideas
  • Recaps -- great for summarizing and identifying the key takeaways of a long transcript of a speaking event
  • I see a lot of exclamation points in the generated copy. I realize it's a tone issue, but I think Writer should be more selective in where they put exclamation points, so they don't get overused and lose their impact.
  • B2B technology copy tends to overuse words: empower, transform, revolutionize, innovate, unleash. Understand that it's a reflection of what's out there, but would be great to propose fresh ideas.
For writing an article about a speaking event -- recaps is great
Brainstorming for headlines, email subject lines, ads
Video summaries -- great for content creators

What I love about Writer is beyond its basic spell and grammar check. The fact that is can make suggestions and rephase your content for you within seconds has really improved my writing. It's as though you have a mentor working along side you. The customizable style guides make sure that every guide written is consistent. The new Voice tool also helps me create new articles a lot faster. All my second guessing has been eliminated with Writer.
  • Detect plagiarism
  • Keeps articles consistent
  • Provided suggestions that work faster than my brain, but comes from my voice
  • Navigation could be simplified
Writer helps me create my guides and training documents, so they are easy to read and easy to write.

Writer is a valuable tool for a solo marketer - brainstorming and getting the ball rolling are often the most difficult and time-consuming tasks, so I use Writer to get the ball rolling.

Plus, the grammar and tone features help to ensure I am keeping the brand voice and standards consistent.
  • Blog outlining.
  • Rephasing content for social media
  • Brainstorming
  • I'd like to see an expanded prompt library.
  • It would be good to have a variety of prebuilt voices.
  • Maybe some videos/lessons on how to improve your prompts.
Writer is well suited to slim marketing teams like mine, where brainstorming and early content generation can be a little slow to get off the ground. The brainstorming is particularly useful when you have nobody to bounce ideas off.

I haven't been able to test Writer's team functions, so I can’t say if it would be less useful for teams - but I certainly see the benefit for solo marketers.

Writer helps us expedite our content creation efforts - I love the ability to automatically outline pages and to lean on the tool's AI recommendations when I'm struggling with writer's block. Our team also leverages the tool's recap builder for our video and podcast content - it makes summarizing and repurposing audio and video media a breeze.
  • Copywriting outlines
  • Audio and video summaries
  • AI copywriting suggestions
  • SEO analysis and suggestions
Writer is a great tool for expediting content creation or for repurposing existing audio/video content. It's reasonably priced and can help with a variety of copywriting formats and mediums.

I use Writer to help with blog post and occasional customer one-sheet content. Writer helps me save time by summarizing information from important events and meetings, which our team can then more easily turn into these marketing materials.
  • Summarizes events
  • Breaks down recordings into key topics
  • Helps with first drafts of blogs
  • It would be great if Writer also offered transcripts
  • It would be great if Writer offered the ability to prompt off of transcripts
  • In my opinion, Writer does not do a great job with its case study or press release features. The prompts for those could be improved.
As mentioned, I do not think Writer's case study abilities are very good. The product it turns around is bland and mostly unusable, unless the user basically puts every possible piece of information in/does most of the writing themself. Using Writer's events recap feature for certain kinds of blog post writing has been extremely beneficial for us.

Writer is the best tools when it comes to language or tone of the whole team. You can chose and monitor the words how they are being used by your team in organization. If any document is being written by your team, it automatically corrects the spelling mistakes and give the reader feel like entire document is written by a single person.
  • Automated correction
  • Words auto complete
  • Writing Style
  • Support for more languages
  • Integration support with more browser
  • Open office tool support
Writer is a complete AI based tool with the data security as it doesn't store any user data. It is the best tool for those content writers or their team where multiple associates are working on same project and writing the document. It analyses the contents and organise it like it was written by a single person.

It should be noted that [Writer] allows me to design and produce text documents that contain images, tables, or diagrams. Said documents can be saved in various formats, incorporating Microsoft Word, HTML, or even PDF. Allowing me to successfully advance the work of my company. share on my blog and above all be creative when writing.
  • Regarding what Writer does, I can say as a first instance it makes my work easier when making my forms, sealing and inserting what I want to implement.
  • As a second place when it comes to directing me through a business document, you have the option of the synonym search engine and automatic correction.
  • As a third example, I would say that Writer makes my work easier, is easy to use[,] and saves versions of the same document.
  • I would like it to have more text editing functions[.]
  • It is an advantage for me since I can install it on my mobile device and thus be able to edit a document when I need it[.]
Carrying out the quality control process allows me to carry out the organization, details [are] written instantly, and progress of the same as well as personalize them. Regarding the interface, I would change it for a more graphic one. On the other hand[,] writer navigates my content of complex documents and thus be able to have shortcuts[.]

We're incorporating it into our product development process to provide our content designers with the ability to control and produce UI material. We had developers produce stuff on the fly all the time, and they frequently misspelled our product name (among other things!). Or we had out-of-date stuff that would require engineers to change, which would take forever. Writer solves this problem by providing a single, simple interface to our Git repositories.
  • My favorite aspect is how clear and accurate the sections for the many components of style are.
  • They are thought-provoking in the sense that you don't always analyze the significance of where a comma is used or the capitalization of a word - until it becomes a problem.
  • Creating our own language, typical blunders, and prohibited phrases.
  • There is some setup required to get your word lists in there, adjust your editing style, and set up typical errors, but otherwise it works similarly to other programs (but worth it in my opinion).
  • Their web editor loses formatting, which several team members have complained about. However, formatting is properly retained in GDocs, Word, and the Chrome extension. There is some setup required to get your word lists in there, adjust your editing style, and set up typical errors, but otherwise it works similarly to other programs (but worth it in my opinion).
  • I wish it were easy to provide solutions to complex problems rather than simply highlighting them.
We have many employees that write across the organization, from proposals in business development to marketing to the communications team, and the team members come from a diverse spectrum of cultural and professional backgrounds. It's useful to have a distinct voice in the market and to clean up items that don't sound as fluent or clear.

I have to write a lot of FAQs for my field force and Writer helps me write them fast and without mistakes. Forget writer's block, we all face situations when we face a difficulty writing proper grammar. Spelling is another time killer when you are typing. You have to go back to each mistake, select and correct the mistake. With Writer, I can do all these from my side panel and instantly. So I am confident even when sending my writing to my management, as I know Writer has my back.
  • It has a clean interface and is easy to read.
  • Chrome integration makes my life easier. My organization doesn't allow external software
  • It counts words as well so I don't have to use another doc manager like MSWord to count words when I am in a tight spot
  • It checks as you write so you will know your mistakes instantly
  • The suggestion tool seemed a little slow. I don't think it's my internet as I saw it both from my home and office.
  • Web text boxes created some trouble for me as I couldn't correct my mistakes from the prompt. I had to use the side panel
  • Writer should take note of Grammarly. I really liked it when Grammarly tells me whether my writing tone is optimistic, or formal
Writer is well suited when you are writing in a word processor or Google Docs. It also has its own word processor in case you need it. Writer also says it helps with AI-driven writing. It offers suggestions when it finds something. Either I write really well or the AI is lazy. It offered very few suggestions to me. I think if you fill in a lot of web forms you might face a little discomfort as the prompt doesn't work and you have to make the correction from the side panel.
