A Must-Have Tool for All Writers and Editors
Overall Satisfaction with Writer
I use Writer as a freelance editor for a marketing agency. It works alongside the free version of Grammarly in my company's CMS.
Pros
- Inclusive language
- Punctuation suggestions
- AI Rewriting
- Grammar and formatting
Cons
- The correction highlights don't always underline perfectly. Minor issue.
- Writer can miss some obvious grammar issues that Grammarly also misses (periods, extra spaces)
- Writer lacks English variants.
- Writer has saved me lots of eyestrain as an editor.
- It is a better value than Grammarly, despite their app being more popular.
- I have used Writer's AI rewrites to brainstorm and improve my writing.
They are clearly doing something right. Writer's AI suggestions have made long and detailed articles much easier for me. I have used it for both creative writing and technical.
The company I work for as a freelancer doesn't officially use Writer, but I have made it my number one suggestion to my fellow freelancers.

I don't have much experience in this area of the Writer app. I am always cautious of how much AI writing I use, but it's good to hear that this team takes copywrite and compliance seriously.
Grammarly notoriously falls short on inclusive writing suggestions. Grammarly always missing out on punctuation that Writer's app picks up. The free version of Grammarly doesn't allow you view suggestions at-a-glance.
The Writer Chrome extension provides a helpful side-panel you can bring up anytime for a rundown of all the grammar suggestions, wordcount, readability, and search functionality.
