Watching staff to ensure they're active while working from home and not using websites that malicious. We also aim to track if sensitive data is being mishandled.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use ActivTrak in our organization to track performance and review the accuracy of hours. It is primarily focused on new employees and our out-of-country staff members. We also use it in the Key Performance Indicators, as a certain percentage is standard and a certain percentage is above-average job performance.

Pros

Easy to use dashboard and portal.
Quick generating reports.
Customizable productive & unproductive labeling.

Cons

Sometimes switching between employees delays the data from being generated..
It duplicates users quite often.
Deleting a user is ineffective. You have to put it as "Do Not Track".

Return on Investment

We have been able to remove employees who did not meet our standards more quickly by reviewing their ActivTrak data.
We have rewarded our hardest working employees based on some data.
Some employees have become defensive when discussing their data.

ActivTrak helps us understand our resource usage across our team and where we can optimize our team. It gives us aircover of data to see if there are team members that need help in their bandwidth / resource management. Managers use it to better understand their team and needs. Its not meant to replace good management but an auxiliary tool to enhance their management capabilities

Pros

Tracking the teams active time on their computers
Providing the data to managers to see if there is anything to double click into. If an employee is underperforming and ActivTrak gives us data that shows bandwidth issues, we can address that with the employee quickly

Cons

often times an employee questions the validity of the data or the categories of Active or Inactive. More clarity around how the monitoring works would be helpful
The name of the program that is being installed should be more vague. We've had employees panic and start researching what is being installed. More discrete branding would be helpful

we've discovered employees that were bad actors, either outsourcing their work or only working part time and discovering they had another job
we've had an employee quit over monitoring them.

We use ActivTrak to track productivity of our teams. We also use it to ensure that during work from home days, our employees are working during the proper times. It also helps flag when work computers are being used for non-work purposes.

Pros

Easily provides real time tracking of employee computers
Tracks the amount of usage per application. This helps us determine that applications value.
Host monthly training sessions and showcases new updates. Makes it easy to stay informed.

Cons

Simplification of labels - it can be difficult to navigate due labels having confusing names.
I have teams in two time zones and I wish it was easier to navigate between the two.
It would be nice to have different logins for team managers that just show them their team vs the entire org.

Return on Investment

Positively - it makes it very easy to subjectively track employee computer use.
Positive - Able to highlight application usage to C-Suite team and showcase actual data on if the tool is being used.
Positive - Offers enhanced security by being able to view what sites, and set up alerts for banned sites.

It helps the company ensure that employees are spending the required effort and doing productive work while working from home.
