Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We are a Managed IT Services Company in Seattle Washington, and deploy WatchGuard hardware and software across every one of our client networks. WatchGuard firewalls provide network security protection, along with a wide range of security software which can be customized and configured based on the client's specific security needs. WatchGuard Basic and Complete Security suites address security concerns from web content filtering to threat detection and response.

WatchGuard Network Security Partner

We purchase all WatchGuard products through Ingram Micro. Ingram Micro is a reputable distributor, Seattle Computing has enjoyed a long and successful relationship with them. We are a WatchGuard Security Partner and work with many clients deploying and implementing WatchGuard firewalls and software.

Usability

WatchGuard provides a great balance of easy systems configuration through WatchGuard System Manager and granular configuration. The security suite software is nimble enough to provide excellent security through standard configurations, and can also be configured to a far greater degree based on security needs. Examples, granular web filtering with WebBlocker, and customized configuration of the Data Loss Prevention services.

Implementation Rating

Standardization. Build strong system configurations in WatchGuard System Manager, enable software suite to fit a majority of your needs. Create questionnaires to specifically identify security needs based on the WatchGuard Security Suite capabilities. Further customize settings based on identified security priorities. Use reporting to monitor network environment, dial software based on reporting feedback loop.

WatchGuard Network Security Packaging and Licensing

WatchGuard has simplified licensing over the years. Simplification has made selling the solution more straight forward. We were concerned about only having two security suite options, but so far it has not been a problem. Often the Basic Security suite meets all of our small business client needs. It is very clear when a client needs the Total Security package, and the value is always clear.

Alternatives Considered

FortiNAC, Ubiquiti WLAN and SonicWall NSA Series

Over the past 10 years, we have sold WatchGuard, we have run into almost every other firewall hardware and software aimed at small to medium-sized businesses. We continue to evaluate solutions but always come back to WatchGuard. Why? Local Seattle company, quality hardware, excellent support, managed growth, and technological advancements without breaking stuff along the way, right-sized software packages, value, partner programs, education. No other solution out there provides the same overall product mix and support.

Likelihood to Recommend

Seattle area Club with a large member list creating a high profile for threats. Deployed M series WatchGuard with Total Security Suite and enabled multiple services including TDR. Software/hardware manufacturer required increased throughput and high availability. Proposing M470 w/ Total Security Suite, + HA unit to handle complex network environment. Seattle Computing manages more than 10 architects, engineers, and design firms, all using WatchGuard Firewall solutions. The hardware/software deploys easily and provides excellent network security protection.
