Overall Satisfaction with ClickUp

I use ClickUp both for personal organization and company-wide projects - both internal and client-side. No other platform has all the features in one place, so there's only one central login to access all information any contractor we hire or client that we onboard would need. This saves a lot of time on the backend.
  • Task-list + Custom Fields + Custom Statuses
  • Docs are pretty decent - could improve to include outlining features & offline mode
  • Conversations, Commenting, Chat - having thorough notes and proof of work is very easy with ClickUp
  • Offline Mode. It's impossible to work with ClickUp when out of internet range/with intermittent internet
  • Charging for every additional add-on. If I pay for Business, I expect Business solutions, not to pay for Business Plus. Every other SaaS knows the less plans the better. ClickUp is moving in the opposite direction.
  • Client Portal - ClickUp has made it easy to provide clients with a front facing client portal to keep them updated on progress without giving them all the details - and without having to build out a custom solution and update manually. It's just a part of our regular workflow.
Sure, it gets the job done - but has room for improvements.
We still end up needing to use a third party automator as the built in automation has room for improvement.
Asana, last time we checked, was too simple and not robust enough to use as a resource manager. Trello is too simple. Airtable has too much focus on the spreadsheet capabilities. ClickUp is a good cross between Airtable, Asana, and Trello

No

Did ClickUp live up to sales and marketing promises?

No

Did implementation of ClickUp go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy ClickUp again?

No

ClickUp has great potential, and if fairly useful in most cases - however they focused on adding on too many features which has led to basically price gouging for every little thing - things that come standard in other software. They've lost focus on centralizing information, but it seems they might be working on fixing that. I was a user since 1.0 when things were simpler and not super fancy, but it worked. Based on the track record of the past 2 years, I'm not confident in recommending ClickUp to anyone who doesn't have an enterprise company - there are leaner software solutions coming out that provide more control and less time digging in the weeds. Sometimes simpler is better. ClickUp is complex, which is great for a lot of use cases - but at the same time, not "free" enough to build truly custom workflows for industries like Entertainment Production and Content Creation.
