Promantek takes the hassle out of Performance Reviews

We use Trakstar from Promantek for our Performance Review process. We use it at all levels of the organization, from the executive officers on to other managers, and line employees. For several years we were struggling for an easy to use, across the board application that would allow us to utilize both online as well as printed reviews. This has made a great difference for us.
  • Ease of use - This program has been great for the Keep It Simple mentality. It is clear, concise, and able to expand based on our needs. There is a good level of intuitiveness that goes with it... basically sorted with employees, reviews, and setup. We have been able to train managers and employees quickly and easily with the process, and simple things like clear buttons, or "Are you ready to send your review to your manager?" questions make this good for us. We have used other global programs from very large companies that didn't work well for us.
  • The clear ability for the Administrator(s) to manage - In the past, we have had problems with managers telling us "Well, my screen shows this and that..." and yet as an Administrator I was unable to see what they were seeing as my screen was different. That is not the case with Trakstar from Promantek. Click a button and I am in as the actual user... an administrator can then see exactly what the end user is looking at. This is especially helpful with out of area locations and makes a world of difference for us.
  • Training and Resources - Promantek's Trakstar has some great resources that reside just a couple clicks away from the main screen. When an employee logs in, they have access to all kinds of information on what they can do, how to do it, easy tricks and tips. Online documents or videos are right there on the site, with dozens if not hundreds of reference documents that explain step by step with screen pictures how things work. It has been very easy to manage training with this program.
Cons
  • It would be nice to be able to customize a screen when looking at some data for employees. In almost every case the screen information is helpful, but sometimes I wish This information was next to That information instead of two columns over, etc. This is not a big deal, but screen customization would be on the wishlist. This is not an issue for downloads of reports as those go to excel and you can manipulate that any way you like.

This is a great program if you have locations in different geographical areas. The ability to work with people at different locations is appreciated, and also there can be informal input that is requested, which Promantek can handle as well.

I am at a loss to think of an area where this does not work well. There are several of our employees in the manufacturing areas that do not have computer access, and for those individuals, we simply print the review instead of having it online. This works fine but is not the forte of Promantek. However, any system these days that focusses on the online aspects of review writing will experience that as well.

Trakstar is used throughout the company. It is used for regular performance reviews. We were able to customize our ratings to fit our culture. You can review and be reviewed by multiple people both in and out of your department regardless of supervisor status. You are also able to set goals.

  • You have the option to add comments to each question and/or as a summary at the end
  • You can review and be reviewed by multiple people both in and out of your department
Cons
  • You can add goals but it's difficult to track them over time
  • I'd like to be able to see a report that shows progress over time
It has been well suited for completing and documenting performance reviews but I haven't used it for much else so not sure exactly where it would be less suited since I haven't tried other scenarios. I believe it could possibly track time off but I'm not sure. It would probably also work well to track performance at the team or company level vs just the individual.

Human Resources used the TrakStar product to manage performance evaluations ("appraisals" in TrakStar terms) for approximately 260 management and classified staff at College of the Desert. This allowed the College to store and record all performance electronically.
  • 360 Review feature (included with TrakStar's Multi-rater feature) - provided the opportunity to conduct 360 reviews independently of, or in conjunction with, annual reviews.
  • Administrator User Interface - the interface is easy to use, although I did prefer the version that existed prior to June 2013 (better colors/better on-demand reporting tools)
  • End User Interface - there is little to no training required for staff who complete evaluations in TrakStar. You may need, however, to complete training related to SMART goals, but using the software should not require an ILT-type setup.
Cons
  • The reporting features are a bit weak. But you can download Excel-ready files to manipulate on your own.
  • The dashboard feature (prior to June 2013) was very nice, but missing in the latest version.
  • Automated reports, quarterly for example, would be nice to send to Senior Leadership (missing in the current version/requires manual input)
Promantek TrakStar is great for smaller companies, not sure that I would suggest this for 4K+ employees - might not have enough reporting tools/automation.

We implemented Trakstar for performance reviews for one department this year to test the platform prior to rolling it out to the whole organization. We previously had no formal process for performance reviews and Trakstar was well received by our team members. In addition to performance, will use Trakstar for exit interviews and employee surveys.
  • Support is great
  • Fairly easy to set up
  • Very easy to use
Cons
  • Trakstar Perform is designed for a ratings based style of review. We opted for a narrative review. The system was able to accommodate us however the reporting functionality doesn't work for the format we chose.
  • The terminology for the different parts of the platform is confusing.
  • While the support is great, there is not a lot of training on how to set up reviews, surveys, etc. on your own.
Trakstar is well suited for a ratings based review format. We opted for a narrative approach and the platform works well for that also.

We use Trakstar Perform to do our 90 day and annual review process. It helped us to solve for keeping track of and monitor our 90 day and annual reviews. It automatically sends reminders to the managers and employees when there is a step in the process for them to complete. It makes it very easy to track and give employees immediate feedback along with helping the managers to see what type of skills and goals the employee needs to accomplish.

Very easy for the employee to use and to rank themselves when asked for their self evaluation. It also allows the manager to rank the employees very quickly. I felt like it was difficult on the administrative side to set up different types of reviews, especially 360 reviews. I also felt like it was complicated to set up the approval system and managers weren’t very good at knowing what the next step was. It seemed like we were always prompting the managers to do the approvals. I also would’ve liked to seen it auto archive any reviews once all of the management approvals had been completed.
