Planview AdaptiveWork has helped me in a lot of things like Resource utilization - it provided real-time insights into all our available resources, projects, and budgets. It accurately captures and tracks all project data in real-time, including effort, status, issues, and change requests
Pros
Effective and Collaborative communication
visibility
Accurate data capturing

Although the tool has a lot of flexibility as it relates to configuration, views, etc. other departments struggle with how to use it to manage backlogs, roadmaps, etc. I think there might be better tools within the Planview family of products that offer more options to support all departments across an organization.
We are utilizing Planview AdaptiveWork as our primary Resource Management tool. The organization never previously had a way to resource demand plan or forecast, as well as in real time track variance versus planned capacity. They also could not see the entire organization's capacity at one glance. It is our one stop shop for all the above now. Adding Pipelined projects into the system allows us to resource plan ahead of time, especially gaining insights to recruitment needs, instead of just in time resourcing, which causes delays in the hiring needs.
Pros
Many ways to acclimate to the system; documentation, videos, community, and contacts.
Planview provides scalable customization options tailored to the unique needs of each business unit or department. Easily add or remove fields in the system. As the admin, it was easy to learn how to configure.
Offers flexibility to adapt to existing systems and align with organizational workflows and processes. There are multiple ways to customize each part of the system to meet our needs.
Cons
As a resource management tool, managing capacity has been very difficult and even to this day I cannot seem to manage variating FTEs. Using a calendar to calculate capacity is unmanageable. We have many on staff who are not a full 1.0 employees, and we cannot get a resolution how to adjust in the system.
Adding multiple tasks, in bulk, cannot be done at a user level which is very resource management 101. I should be able to go to the user and add/delete projects or change allocations. This makes it very difficult when 1 user is being added to 10s of projects at one time.
The reporting is not intuitive. Generating customized reporting is available, but it is very hard to get something that should be easy, such as capacity in % each month by user, by program/project/or group. That is one example.
It is difficult to manage tasks that have assignments over 25 resources as the screen limits view to 25. This requires a lot of time to tab and refresh each tab if a resource was added or removed (recalculating demand).
Likelihood to Recommend
Planview AdaptiveWork should look into more resource management focused solutions since it is such a hot item in the market right now for organizational needs.

We mainly use the system to track time and expenses and to some extent project time management. It allows us to keep accurate records of how much time/money was spent on a project, but do not always use the full extent of the product.
Pros
Expense Tracking
Time Sheet Tracking
Historical Records of each project
Cons
When an end date is changed, the start date changes to the end date even when the start date was set at the time of project setup.
Inability to clean up customer lists even if customers have been inactive for a number of years.
Pulling some reporting information is hard to pull because it goes by name or project number assigned. It does not always feel streamlined.
Likelihood to Recommend
It is less appropriate for quick jobs that only take a couple of hours.
We use Planview AdaptiveWork as a complete end to end project management software. Beginning with product requests, through to the creation of individual projects, to the daily management and progression of tasks through to project completion. Really useful to be able to tag relevant documentation to projects and have everything in one place.
Pros
Allowing multiple team members to simultaneously work on a project with live updating
Good uptime
Massively customisable
Cons
Project cases get muddled or confused sometimes while running through milestones. Resulting in completion statuses at half-mast. Can be confusing
The mobile app is almost unusable. Would really like to see that completely revamped
At Princess Cruise Lines, we use AdaptiveWork for user/vendor management, financial processing, timekeeping, and project management. The Time Entry feature has saved the company a lot of headaches when billing clients for the projects they are working on. Before, they would send an invoice without a record of hours worked, so this has helped out immensely.
Pros
Reporting.
Project Management,
Being able to customize the tool to make it fit our business needs.
Cons
We've had technical issues this year with the Global Search functionality. It only worked for specific users, but this has been resolved.

I've been an AdaptiveWork (Clarizen) admin for the past 14 years, so I've seen much improvement since I started working with the product. I'm very happy we can utilize the hybrid mode by using the cards, I think this was long overdue but it works very well.

I work in a Corporate Real Estate group and we use Planview AdaptiveWork to manage all of our real estate projects. All resources have access to the system to update progress on tasks and keep track of dates, and progress on the projects. Discussion boards are used to communicate back and forth on projects and we also have many configurations on our back-end to create automation for approvals, population of data in the property cards, etc.
Pros
Flexibility in how we as an organization want to track our projects/data.
Ability to put together reports for any data point in the system/and create charts as needed for that data.
Capacity Planning tracking.
Cons
When it comes to reports, it would be great if there was an easy way to roll-up the results instead of having to create configurations to summarize data.
The consultant experience has not been great when it comes to more advanced needs for configurations. The consultants are in a different timezone which limits hours to work together and it seems hours are spent trying to determine what the requirement is and when the initial thought is that the configuration is possible, it may result in not being able to assist.
Charts in the reports section are not able to be exported
When pulling a report together, you need to make sure you pull from the right "item" or level. If you decide you need data that resides in another "item" or level, you need to re-do the report from the beginning.
Because the system is so configurable and I imagine different clients use the system differently, when you need something automated in your account, where you need to pull a consultant or SME in, the person doesn't necessarily understand your configurations and how things work so they are unable to give recommendations on how to solve problems that don't impact other configurations you already have set up in the system.
Templates cannot be updated unless they are pulled into a project and then re-saved. In the templates module, you are not able to open a template and edit to re-save. Therefore, making updates to a template can be very time consuming having to find a project to use to pull it in, make updates, re-save and then pull out. It would be great if the templates module allowed you to edit the templates and re-save.

If you have a need for tracking projects and keeping the teams on the same page with the status and updates within a project, Planview AdaptiveWork works well. I do like how discussion posts automatically go to folks email addresses and every note is stored within the project. I also like the flexibility of reporting and configurations that can be made. Depending on how you use the system and what your needs are, the configurations can sometimes impact each other and it's not automatically known what the impacts will be unless you read through each configuration that has to do with your problem. It would be great if the configurations were more user-friendly instead of easy for people with configurations backgrounds. It's not always apparent which formula you should use for what you need - and the formula options require some training or some experience in coding to understand immediately. If the configurations could be "dumbed down" a bit and then warnings for impacts to other configurations before being saved, that would be helpful.

Planview AdaptiveWork is best suited for a professional services organization that relies heavily on project management. It would be less appropriate for a managed services industry.
Our organization uses Planview AdaptiveWork for our every cross-departmental project in our company. The key term here being the cross-departmental piece. The real benefit of Planview AdaptiveWork is that it makes it seamless to bridge the gap between so many different groups of users. The way the modules are able to interact with each other, the connections you can build between users, groups and permissions, and the organization of data makes Planview AdaptiveWork the best solution for us to be able to both offer a high level of personalization while maintaining standardization. We use Planview AdaptiveWork not only for internal projects, but, external projects as well. It's flexibility to be able to invite outside users and provide a high level of visibility makes it ideal to collaborate with project resources both inside and outside of our organization. Before we implemented Planview AdaptiveWork, we found ourselves using a different project management tool for each department, or, even worse, no tool at all, cobbling together a mess of spreadsheets, emails, direct messages, and one-off conversations that made gathering all the knowledge we needed for the project nearly impossible. Centralizing all of this inside of Planview AdaptiveWork had a huge impact on the way we conduct our project management processes and has massively benefited our efficiency and profitability thanks to a reduced amount of project rework and time lost finding information.
Pros
Provides an enterprise-level solution that offers scalability like no other tool
Clearly defines permissions and individual workspaces that can be custom-tailored to the work style of different departments and team members
Provides flexibility in the organization of data and the ability to access it
Supplies us with exceptional reporting capabilities that give us the power to look at projects from the highest to the lowest levels of granularity
Cons
Planview AdaptiveWork's ability to create relations between work estimates, resources, and time is one of its strengths but also one of its drawbacks. The average user is a little less considerate of the way these things interact with each and the automatic way in which Planview AdaptiveWork will affect one or the other can occasionally create a confusing scenario if the user is unaware of how changing one will affect the other
Likelihood to Recommend
Planview AdaptiveWork is by far the most flexible project management tool we've ever used. The ability to customize and create solutions to fit our needs is beyond capable. We often find ourselves creating new workflows that make automatic actions in parts of a project, or send notifications, or add users, or update statuses... the list of things goes on and on. Essentially the ability to create an IF statement on pretty much EVERYTHING you can do in the system is unparalleled. If you can imagine it, you can achieve it.
