8x8 is great when it works but tech support hard to reach

We use it at our main store and our satellite stores. It replaced our conventional phone system from the telephone company. It was less costly and provided us with more features and capabilities.
  • Many features for users.
  • Very flexible
  • Easy to use.
  • Ability to move your calls from your phone to desktop to cell phone easily.
Cons
  • Contacting tech support is HORRIBLE!
  • Inability to reach customer support in a timely manner, you used to be able to call in and someone would come on the line within a few minutes. You can't call in now, you have to go online and fill out a ticket that asks you numerous questions THEN you have to look at pictures and click on what they want to prove you are a human when you have already put in your contact information. I HATE THIS!
  • We have very high internet speeds of 500mbps but I still have calling cutting in and out. Not all the time, but many times and this shouldn't happen.
  • You can't reach anyone in management when you have an issue! Then if someone does call you back, they aren't much help at all.
It's a great concept for anyone that needs to use a phone! If you are a business and you need phones there is no reason not to go VOIP as long as it's less costly. However, tech support is VITAL and the ability to reach tech support is VITAL as well. The support people are usually good when you can get one!

8x8 has been very beneficial for all of our employees. We all use the after-hours forward feature to never miss a client call whether it be sales or customer support.
  • Online tutorials
  • Live customer support
  • Quality of service
  • Call features
Cons
  • Quicker to get to a live human being.
8x8 is great for smaller organizations that want what a big corporation has with their PBX system.

Good product, lacks great support

We use the system at over 200 locations throughout the Midwest. We liked the flexibility the system provided through the 8x8 Work Cell application. The system also records all our calls to the cloud, which allows our users to review calls to ensure order accuracy and our managers to review calls to ensure the customer support agents are doing and saying what they need to be successful. We have approximately 800 lines across 4 states and anticipate growing this.
  • The cell phone app, 8x8 work, is great and allows users not to be tied to their desks
  • The admin console is very robust and allows for a lot of changes
  • The call recording feature, even when using the cell phone app is fantastic
Cons
  • Customers can not order their own licenses, you have to go through a sales rep, which is very frustrating
  • Most of the support people are not native English speakers and it can be difficult to understand them at times
  • If you are a power admin, Tier 1 support will not likely be of any assistance and it can take time to get escalated to a tier 2
  • They often make you jump through hoops to get support to prove it is on their end, they assume it is something on your network.
The system works well in most cases, especially if you have a smaller, less complex company. When you start getting into complex call routing through multiple states using auto attendants, call queues, ring groups, etc. it can work fine, but getting a support person with enough knowledge to help can be challenging. Overall, we have a favorable outlook on 8x8, but the support has gotten worse as the years go by. We used to have several points of contact that were dedicated to us, but now we call an 800 number and hope for the best.

Good Product with So-So Support

We use 8x8 X Series across the organization
  • Simple to set up the initial system
  • Adding users and activating phones is very easy
  • Billing can be automatically split based on cost center
  • Better pricing than other competing cloud phone systems
Cons
  • First level support is not very good
If you have some experience with a VOIP phone system and don't require much support, 8x8 can work very well. Their online documentation and training videos are relatively simple and straight forward. However, be prepared for some delays and frustration if you need to utilize 8x8 support.
