Likelihood to Recommend StepShot is perfect for showing your audience how they are supposed to navigate a new system you have implemented. You can take them from a login screen all the way through any technical process you want them to follow. The product is not ideal, however, for documenting a process that does not have tangible steps. For example, a process we have created includes some reflective thinking about alignment or outcomes in order to work, this can be articulated in the text area of the screen captures but doesn't really capture our message.
Read full review UserTesting is excellent for solving complex content problems. A lot of work I do is based on compliance messaging, some of which is convoluted and confusing for users. If I can test variants of the content on users to find a way that's both compliant and user friendly then I've done my job well, UserTesting is essential in helping me do that. Regarding less appropriate scenarios, I honestly can't think of anything specific that affects my career. It would not be easy to use for physical product testing, considering the platform is online only.
Read full review Pros Easily capture process as you're going through it Easily edit the captured process Add new steps/slides into the process as needed after it's captured Read full review Post AB testing problem solving to understand why experiences didn't get the intended results Discovery and framing to learn what the users needs are Early iterative prototyping to learn what users think about new mental models and experiences Late stage prototyping to validate the experience To learn about content and what users think about it Read full review Cons The "export & publish" button is kind of tiny and tucked away. It should be more prominent. After not using it for a couple weeks, I always forget where it is. Updates aren't as frequent. Which is fine, since I haven't come across many bugs, it would just be cool to see some added features/functionality a bit more often. The blur looks fine in the preview mode, but when exported, it's not the best. If the service becomes more expensive than it currently is then we might not be able to justify additional cost - but this is theoretical. I would recommend UserTesting and would ideally renew our contract.
Read full review Usability I don't know if it's because of the way that the tasks/questions are inputted on the back end, especially with the different types of questions (verbal, multiple choice, scale, etc), I only found out after I've launched a test an error with my test plan even after I've gone through multiple rounds of review before launching. My eyes don't seem to catch errors well on the back-end even despite me working off a Google document of the test plan

Read full review Support Rating I have only run into an issue once, which I believe was due to a newly released feature (cloud storage). I was running into issues with the functionality on my Mac. The team was incredibly helpful in both troubleshooting the issue by jumping on screen sharing sessions, as well as providing multiple releases for me to test to fix the problem!
Read full review We already had some meetings with the team, and the support was great. Also, e-mail responses used to be fast, and the CS team seems to be always available to help. Recently, we had problems recruiting participants, so they arranged a meeting to discuss this topic. So the support is great
Read full review Implementation Rating From a technical perspective, the implementation was extremely smooth. Most of the change management / implementation hurdles were clearing use of the tool through our various security, legal, and information privacy teams. Once these concerns were addressed (UserTesting.com was very helpful in providing all the needed documentation), the implementation process was very simple and we were able to get going right away.

Helped to record the process Capture the Screen Process recording for future reference while developing the tasks Read full review User Testing is so much easier to use than other user testing tools. It's also pretty good for transcription and now they do transcription in Spanish, which is also an important part of my work and that was one of the reasons I used Dovetail. Now I still use Dovetail as it's a much better option for a research repository than user testing when using multiple research tools.
