Overall Satisfaction with WatchGuard Network Security

We use WatchGuard Network Security both internally and for corporate clients. The range of security services, product range, configuration flexibility and ROI makes WatchGuard an outstanding choice.

Pros

  • Sufficient product range for SMB through large Gov't / Corporate
  • Easy to configure and maintain, reasonable ongoing subscription costs with flexible support options
  • Product availability - in stock or withing days for delivery
  • Top tier support when you need them.

Cons

  • Built in wireless devices have occasionally been problematic (ex T35-W series)
  • # 1 would be the ability to copy a base configuration easily from one device to another (policies)
  • Would like to see technical re write exams elongated, three years currently is just to short - min 5 yr would be reasonable, with all the certifications by other vendors this places undue/un-needed burden on the reseller. demand upkeep webinars instead.
  • Provides clients with a sense of high security and knowledge feeling they are better protected
  • Recurring revenue from subscriptions has added to the bottom line (roughly a 5% bump)
  • Providing support for a single quality product (long term brand loyalty) adds value for ease of use and training from a technical standpoint, low learning curve
  • Having a range of products allows us to match client need and budget without moving brands

It's a well rounded product, but always room for improvement - not for basic end users it is well beyond their capabilities generally to use.
# 1 is getting the ability to copy existing policies from one device to another, would save a lot of time. would love to see a primer (webinar or white sheet) for basic setup - ideal for new techs to learn with.
Current packaging is easy to understand and price. Some vendors offer so many minor options it becomes a messy confusing way to purchase and often leads to mistakes. WatchGuard has the basic and total security licensing for all devices, perhaps adding a third to stretch out the current "buy it all or just get the minimum" would be an idea.
It's been our experience the WatchGuard products hold up better long term and are more substantial (granular choices for setup) than the Meraki product. WatchGuard menus are, in my opinion, friendlier to use and understand. Sonicwall uses far too many screens, and having to constantly change the screen for setup/config is just not as good.
In today's quickly evolving security (risk) environment the need for active, secure firewall management and threat protection is really a must in all corporate and small business environments and WatchGuard has a sufficient product range to suit budget and need. About the only place it may be overkill is home based users, unless WatchGuard comes up with a basic home version under $150 USD.
