Overall Satisfaction with PRTG Network Monitor

To ensure the uptime and stability of our network infrastructure, we needed to deploy a robust network monitoring application capable of overseeing endpoints, network devices, and switches.

After thorough evaluation of several solutions, we identified PRTG Network Monitor as the solution to address our needs. PRTG effectively tackles several critical business problems we had - it provides us with real-time monitoring and alerts for network performance issues, which reduces downtime and enhances operational efficiency throughout our network.

It also offers comprehensive insights into network traffic and device health, which helps in proactive maintenance and capacity planning.

The scope of our use case includes continuous monitoring of all network endpoints, switches, and critical devices to ensure seamless communication and minimize any disruptions that could impact business operations.

By deploying PRTG, we aim to achieve a high level of network reliability and performance, supporting our goal of maintaining an uninterrupted and stable network environment.

Pros

  • Provides comprehensive insights into network health.
  • Minimizes disruptions to our production environment.
  • Allows for a high level of network reliability.
  • Offers OID tool to walk devices.
  • Has a library of various sensors.
  • Allows for the creation of custom SNMP sensors.

Cons

  • More affordable licensing models would be nice for companies with less than their existing tiers.
  • PRTG has helped us achieve a level of network reliability that has improved stability throughout all of our networks, resulting in greatly improved efficiency in our overall business operations.
PRTG offers more versatility in monitoring when compared to the other solutions we tested. The other solutions were also limited as far as customization options, which made them less adaptable to our networks.

When compared to Auvik, for instance, we prefer PRTG as it offers immediate notifications through the desktop client - not limited to email notifications as with Auvik.

We also appreciate the fact that PRTG can be self/on-prem hosted vs Auvik's cloud model. This makes for an easier deployment and less firewall adjustments to allow traffic to cloud-hosted solutions.

Do you think PRTG Network Monitor delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with PRTG Network Monitor's feature set?

Yes

Did PRTG Network Monitor live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of PRTG Network Monitor go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy PRTG Network Monitor again?

Yes

PRTG is well suited for networks of all sizes, however it can be a bit cost-prohibitive when needing to monitor slightly more than their no-cost tier offers, or if you need to monitor roughly have of the amount of devices offered in their first paid tier.

That said, it scales and works well in our small network of 300+ devices. It would likely excel in larger enterprise/data-center type of networks as well. It also works very well for remote-site monitoring, which reduces our need for on-site IT staff at our other location.

Evaluating PRTG Network Monitor and Competitors

  • Integration with Other Systems
  • Ease of Use
  • Other
Cost - although PRTG is fairly expensive. They would greatly benefit from having a lower tier than their existing lowest tier of 500 devices. Perhaps having a 250 device tier, then offer additional licensing packs in increments of 50. They would have a much higher base of users if this were the case.
