Overall Satisfaction with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure

Some members of my organization performed tests over Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. The results were excellent in terms of performance and the number of available data centers / regions. In fact, response times were great, with less latency than Azure and response times were evidently shorter. We were looking for an alternative to the costful, slow and limited IaaS Azure offer.

Pros

  • IaaS performance
  • Portal and web page response times
  • Number and distribution of DCs/Regions
  • Latency and performance of their VMs
  • Native support for Oracle Data products

Cons

  • Cost saving opportunities for specific resources and customers
  • Improve tools for cost monitoring and management
  • A more sophisticate clone of Microsoft AD
  • Better integration of resources between the same cloud
  • Its cost was good, so I had a lot to test with just a trial
  • Monitoring dashboards was a key value added
  • OLTP Oracle database runs extremely fast in comparison with Azure SQL Server and Azure Cosmos DB
  • Automation was not an extremely limited service like Azure DataFactory
From the start, I was surprised by response times and image quality accessing windows VMs with RDP. GCP, Azure and -many offerings in AWS- don't perform this speed. Also, that's evident in the quality of Infrastructure Management Team, because I just received one warning regarding a region failure, what confirms that's a mature platform.
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure flexibility was good. Still lacks for a cost monitoring tool at the level of its infrastructure, what is a significant drawback. The role of FinOps says something of the times we are living and the importance of dealing with expenses and total solution cost. That's part of nowadays IT infrastructure, like security.
Performance and latency are excellent in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Except for AWS baremetal, I don't find anything like that. I found that, aside from conventional compute that works really good, they also offer HPC VDI. That's one of the strengths that should have more hype in OC advertising. After my tests, that were limited by the trial, I'm a net promoter of the service. I really miss the depth of my RDP connections and response times.

Do you think Oracle Cloud Infrastructure delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure's feature set?

Yes

Did Oracle Cloud Infrastructure live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Oracle Cloud Infrastructure again?

Yes

I just cannot be very objective. I received the request from management to perform an in-depth research on Oracle Cloud migration feasibility. Long hours of investigation and I concluded that yes, that's a superior product, not only for its IaaS but the Data management, automation and monitoring tools. Oracle recovered its place in the field with a very competitive product. I just got fascinated with it.
