Netbox is THE tool to setup for your network Source of Truth
Overall Satisfaction with Netbox
We use Netbox as a source of truth for all our network devices. We use it to model the devices, like the number of interfaces, the name, the device type and role (we could also model the network cards inside). Basically all of our devices are modelled into Netbox, that represents several thousand of network devices. We also model the IP addresses and on which interfaces they are attached, as well as configuration contexts.
Pros
- Device modelling
- Device inventory
- IPAM
Cons
- The GraphQL implementation could be better integrated
- Netbox is usually very reactive except but performance start to drop when requesting 250 devices or more per page
- Reactive WebUI
- REST API very well designed
- Extensibility
- It could integrate very easily in our ecosystem thanks to the API
- It can be used as a tool for conformance purposes
The API is just very well designed. All tools say that what you can do with webUI, you can also do it via the REST API. That is usually not the case except for Netbox, where you can really do everything with the API. For instance with GLPI, you cannot get rack and rack units data with the API, while you can do it via the webUI
