Overall Satisfaction with Dropbox

Digital Asset Management and sharing assets with external partners.

Pros

  • Connecting with file structure on desktop.
  • Mobile app is seamless.
  • Video previews render quickly.

Cons

  • Search functionality has room for improvement -- more tag based searching would be next level and make you a competitor for Brandfolders of the world.
  • Approval flows.
  • File governance is confusing and sometimes results in people who have edit access deleting huge chunks of content when they are trying to remove synced content from their computer/account.
  • Made our content more accessible to our partners by having an external server. Helped us get more money out of the media we are investing in.
Dropbox is straightforward to set up but if you execute on setting up tagging in products like Lytho, Sprinklr, Bynder ETC. it becomes a lot more streamlined to share and find content.

Google Drive is more or less apples to apples but the GUI is prettier in Dropbox. For document creation and management, Google Drive is still the service we use. For briefing and approving design assets Workflow is more straightforward once implemented. Especially with the connection between Lytho Workflow and Lytho DAM.
