We are a holdings company with many brands in our umbrella, including technology and software companies. We use SourceForge for multiple software products in our portfolio. It's being used to drive customer acquisition at our software company by showcasing our software, generating new customer leads, and sending large amounts of quality click traffic to our software's website. It addresses a number of problems including new user acquisition, marketing, and reputation management. We're able to collect and showcase customer reviews, list all of our product integrations, list marketing materials and assets like screenshots and videos, and acquire new customers who are interested in our software.
  • Very comprehensive software search engine
  • Filter software by integrations, region, organization type, company size, and more
  • Easy user review collection program
  • Great customer support (by email or phone)
  • Competitive pricing
  • Unlimited clicks/leads for a flat rate (compared to PPC)
  • Buyer insight data about who looks at our software
  • Detailed reporting
Cons
  • We'd like to be able to embed Vimeo videos
  • Would be nice to be able to list case studies within their platform
SourceForge is an absolute powerhouse for generating new software customers at a very competitive rate compared to other review platforms. SourceForge is best suited for SaaS companies that want an effective new user acquisition program without having to micromanage a PPC campaign. Since SourceForge provides unlimited clicks and leads for a single flat rate, I don't have to worry about myself or the marketing team overspending on pay-per-click or forgetting about the campaign and then being hit with a big PPC bill later.

SourceForge offers a lot of bells and whistles, and their program is very powerful if you take advantage of them. They offer sophisticated analytics, conversion tracking codes to track conversions, and a really unique integration and competitor engine. I would say SourceForge works really well if you listen to and adhere to their best practices. If you set up your profile and campaign correctly, it will generate a lot of qualified customer leads on autopilot. If you just sign up and don't spend any time optimizing your profile according to their best practices, you might not be as successful. SourceForge gets a ton of traffic, so if you sell SaaS, you need to be featured on this site.
  • Brand exposure
  • Central reputation management platform
  • Vast quantity of potential new qualified customers
  • Buyer insight data to be used in remarketing campaigns
  • Large amount of new customers at a very low customer acquisition cost
  • Significant driver in our portfolio company's 100% YoY growth
  • Large amount of customer data for our sales team
We have a page on Trustpilot as well, but Trustpilot is not focused just on software and technology like SourceForge is. If you want to market your software, SourceForge offers a large volume of specific tools relevant to software marketing and customer acquisition. SourceForge has some unique integration and comparison features I have not seen on other software comparison platforms.
  • Online training
Training was great. We had an hourlong kickoff call with our campaign manager, who walked us through every aspect and feature that SourceForge provides, which is quite a lot. The campaign manager was very knowledgeable and easygoing, and was patient with all of our questions. Very seamless training experience.
Their support is lightning-fast to respond to us any time we have questions or issues. We have a dedicated campaign manager who we can call or email any time we need help, which is not often, but it's nice to be able to lean on when necessary. They're also open to walking us through different features of the product and general training.
We did not have to purchase additional support. Support is included free of charge, which is much appreciated.
Yes
We did notice one small bug in their search feature. They had it fixed within 48 hours.
Our campaign manager stayed on the phone for me the entire time as I set up and optimized my product listing. I had so many questions and felt as though I was taking up too much of their time at one point, but they were patient as ever and really helped us optimize our performance as much as possible. You can tell they actually care about getting it right.
SourceForge offers so many features for a technology review platform. They have some really unique ones that let potential new customers search for your product in really personalized and innovative ways. When you first load the edit screen, it may be a bit overwhelming at first because there are so many customizable fields, but their documentation and support is good and each field provides a ton of value.
  • Customizing your software's attributes is very unique and cool compared to other platforms
  • Adding images and descriptions is easy
  • Collecting user reviews is a breeze
  • They have so many categories that sometimes I am unaware if we are missing one
Yes
The mobile interface works just as well as the desktop interface. SourceForge on mobile is responsive to all smartphone devices. You can also administer your product listing from mobile if you need to. No issues at all with mobile usage and it's polished and fully usable.
SourceForge has been plenty scalable for us. Our marketing department is able to edit listings and our executives can also log in to the platform if need be for leads and reporting information. SourceForge offers multiple user access and role permissions, so it's pretty scalable and easy to use for our entire team.
We've never had any issues or downtime with SourceForge. Since we've been a user, the platform has never been down. Or at least never that I've noticed.
SourceForge loads extremely quickly whether you're using the front end or administrating your product listing on the back end. All pages are snappy to load--no issues with page speed whatsoever.
