While they believe SEMrush is a great tool for competitor analysis, users suggest evaluating other options if comparable or superior tools are available at lower costs. They mention that SEMrush is a basic, free tool that does the job, but other tools may be more sophisticated, including the paid version of SEMrush.

Strong Offering. I recommend it.
- Competitor Analysis
- Site Audit - Problems with Sites
- Paid Ad Viewing
- Keyword Research
- PPC Research
- Bridging the gaps between their products within the suite.
- The ability to crawl every tiny detail of a website is great. Not only that, but SEMRush breaks down problems by Errors, Warnings, and Notices. By prioritizing technical issues and content needs, it makes it very easy to know where to start optimizing a site.
- The competitor analysis feature in SEMRush is extremely robust. In fact, we switched to SEMRush from another program specifically for how robust the competition feature is.
- SEMRush covers a wide range of needs. If you need social media insights and a tool to schedule content, this does it. If you need comprehensive website audits, it does that too. From keyword tracking to backlink audits, this tool has everything.
- The report builder feature is extremely helpful. It allows you to drag and drop certain features from your project and build out a report.
- Since several areas of SEMRush are still in the Beta phase, it can be quite buggy at times. However, their customer service team is very quick to respond and resolve any bugs you find.
Semrush: A Marketing Tool of Tools
- Keyword magic tool is incredible
- Position tracking is great for SEO specialists
- The link building tool is the easiest we've found yet
- Overall theme and layout could be revamped
- A top suggestion for keyword options would be nice
- Listing management is limited
SEMrush's Value
- Efficiently research keywords.
- Keep track of ranking.
- Further understanding of competition.
- Interface learning curve.
- Competitive Research - Gather insight into what the competition is doing for SEO and SEM
- Site Audit - Quickly allows you to find technical SEO issues and provides suggestions for correcting issues
- Keyword Research - Provides insight into question and long-tail keywords
- Data Accuracy - Sometimes the position tracking and KD % are a bit off. However, the data provides you with a decent gauge for making decisions.
- Learning Curve - If you are new SEO or SEM, it may take you a bit to learn the all the tool sets in Semrush. However, they provide a lot of good tutorials as well as a helpful blog.
- Cost - The tool is worth every penny. However, some smaller businesses or freelancers may see the cost as a barrier. They should do a cost benefit analysis to see how this product can quickly pay for itself by saving time and growing the business.
The swiss-army knife of SEO tools
- Provides data on search engine metrics
- Keeps the team on the same page
- Keeps up with the industry and the needs of search engine marketers
- There is a learning curve for new users
- Lots of data, but it requires analysis from an experienced SEO
- The plans suck for agencies - can be expensive to have mutiple seats
Semrush is a bloggers best friend
My company is small so I use it myself to make decision.
- Keyword Research
- Competitive Analysis
- Backlink Gaps
- It would be nice to be able to track a specific URL and have that saved so I can go back and look at specific pages I want to follow, not just highest traffic or top keywords without haveing to go to the next level. Post tracking is limited to 3 at the first level.
- Pricing is on tiers, so some features just are out of reach for a small company.
- It has a bit of a learning curve so if you aren't ready to learn it, you might not use it.
SEMRush is one of the best SEO tools out there.
- Competitive organic research. They do a great job of showing you what any website ranks for, what keywords they bid on in PPC, what ads they are showing display-wise, etc.
- Organic keyword research. You can see related terms to a specific keyword and get estimated volume, historical volume trends, "difficulty" scores, etc.
- Link analysis. They have a great suite of tools that find links to your website automatically, track links you currently have and measure their "toxicity" levels, traffic volume, etc.
- Tool organization/presentation. There are so many features and tools in their program (which is a great thing) but it really can be confusing sometimes. Remembering where you have to go to get a certain metric can be difficult.
- Keyword/traffic volume accuracy. Some of the historical trends for keywords or domains seem off, especially when you compare a domain where you actually know the history. But that is an infamously difficult task.
- Better explanations of some of their tools. Some give you explanations upfront but then it's hard to remember how to use each one.
SEMRush... when you know how to use it, it works
- Tracks the broken links
- search-ability factoring
- ease of use for the website
- Huge learning curve
- not the most user friendly of products
- hard to understand formatting
More SEO tools than you ever thought you needed
- Ease of use. Hands down, SEMrush is easier to pick up and use than alternatives like Screaming Frog.
- Robust. There are so many options and tools within SEMrush that it would probably take years to master them all.
- Reporting. SEMrush offers a ton of automated reports that they'll send straight to your inbox, but they also have a report creation tool that you can use to make branded reports to send to your own clients. It's a drag and drop tool that functions a lot like a website builder, with different "widgets" that show different data.
- Tutorial and learning content. Because SEMrush is so huge, it can be frustrating to want to use a tool and not be able to find high-quality reference material on using it. I wish they'd invest a little more in their blogs and video tutorials so users could quickly and easily get the most out of the program.
- Price. I pay $200/month in order to be able to service about 5-8 client projects simultaneously - it feels a bit steep for me, since I'm not using every single tool within the suite. It would be nice if there was some way to only pay for the tools you use.
The best SEO tool on the market!
- SEMrush can be easily customized to show different forms of stats. We use it to view a general overview of our website and also monitor the ranking of specific keywords. It will tell us how competitive that keyword is as well as where our page ranks on it.
- The site analysis tool is also really useful and updated often. The site analysis tool will scan a website and report any errors it encounters and how to better optimize the website SEO-wise. This is useful in catching issues that could pose a big problem and result in a penalty from Google.
- Another great tool is the backlink analysis feature. It will show every website that links back to yours and also provide a score to the website that will tell you whether or not that backlink is toxic. From there, it's really easy to disavow those links and prevent any future ranking issues. It can also be used to see what sites are linking back to your competitors.
- SEMrush is really feature rich, however, it can be confusing at times as to what certain tools do and how to use them. It would be great if SEMrush provided some sort of short tutorial when they launch a new tool.
- While SEMrush is great at continuously adding new keywords, it can be hard to find good data on the lesser trafficked keywords. I'm not sure whether it is possible, but it would be great to get more accurate stats for smaller keywords or location-specific keywords. The stats for those are sparse right now.
SEO Essential Toolkit
- Keyword Analysis
- SEO Reporting
- Interface is fairly complex
- Reports can take a while to generate
All-in-one SEO/SEM audit tool - SEMRush!
- First and foremost, it's an all-in-one marketing toolkit and provides an overview to all the major KPIs for any given website.
- Also, I love how you can choose the country right before adding the URL of the domain one wants to analyze.
- Also, the analysis of paid traffic/keywords also helps not just in SEO but also in SEM.
- The fact that one can do backlink, keyword and competitive analysis, rank audits just under one window is great about SEMRush.
- Often I have realized that it crashed when a heavy amount of data was exported. Of course, I don't know if it's my PC/browser or the tool itself.
- SEMRush can also work on making working on multiple devices/platforms easier. This would improve the usability a lot.
- The tool itself has a steep learning curve which is not necessarily bad as every detailed/comprehensive tool is a little complicated. But the UI/UXcan surely has a room for improvement.
