Patriot Software takes care of all my tax filings without me having to fill out any forms. Everything is done online so I can be on the road and still complete my payroll on time. The addition of direct deposit to my employees has been a big plus. The reporting options are nice. I can print out reports and give them to my accountant when he needs information about my payroll for my tax return.
Pros
Everything is online
You can email if you have questions and they get back to you.
All your taxes are filed if you go with the premium version.
Cons
Sometimes takes too long to get an email response
They have made some accounting errors. Some I have found and some they have found. The corrections make all the numbers confusing.

Friendly intuitive web based solution

I think Patriot works best for companies that need cost-effective, self-managed, and fairly vanilla payroll needs. There are solution providers out there that have more full-featured offerings and higher prices, but this has met my needs as I was the only employee, then it still works as I have grown to five 1099 and two employees, but in time I may outgrow it.
Patriot Software is an easy to use payroll software. Instructions are provided on how to set up payroll for your state, but some room is there for interpretation such that you need to call your state for clarification to get specific documentation. I am otherwise able to put in my payroll in a weekly basis and it calculates the payroll on its own.
Pros
Payroll administration is easy
Very affordable for small businesses
Good support
Cons
Some instructions could be more detailed
Having a full service set up program can help time starved business owners
Could build out more integrations with more bookkeeping software
Likelihood to Recommend
Patriot Software is great for a small business that needs to process payroll but doesn't have that much of a budget. Ideally, you should have some level of experience on your team to ensure that payroll is processed correctly as you have to figure some things out for yourself like how to get SUTA numbers.
The whole team uses Patriot. The team mostly uses Patriot to track pledges and donations. We also use it to keep up to date records of contact information to pull mailing lists, send thank you and tax letters, and contact prospective donors.
Pros
Giving multiple ways to pull data
Holding donation profiles
Maintaining donor profiles and showing all changes to contact information
Cons
Connecting with outside software - we have an issue of Patriot not recognizing donors when connected to other websites when all the information is the same minus a middle initial
Giving an error page when something small is off. Instead of giving an easy to fix error notification, Patriot brings the user to an error page and they have to reenter everything.
Fixing dates easily. If a date is entered incorrectly, 8/13/21 instead of 2021, an error pop up appears but the user has to click enter/okay many times or refresh the page in order to fix this issue.
Enter vs Tab key - Patriot loves the tab key but if the user clicks enter instead, many times it brings them to the home page.

Patriot is an overall simple system to use. It is great for storing profiles and sorting donations. There are many helpful searching options to narrow the search (state, city, email) which is extremely useful if you have multiple people in your system with the same name.

We have been using Patriot since 2017 and truly love how the platform has evolved over the years. First and foremost, customer service has been consistently amazing; there is always someone kind and patient to answer questions or to help correct any issues that may arise. The interface is extremely user friendly and self explanatory, and extra kudos for including 1099s in the same payroll (this was not the case before). I used Run by ADP before for another company, but ultimately chose Patriot because of their competitive pricing. Looking back, I am so glad we went with them, as their product is exactly what our grassroots organization needs.
Pros
Excellent customer service that is consistently kind and professional.
Easy to understand interface—very user friendly
Print reports and easily apply filters
Cons
None that I can think of, none that our business needs. They fixed our only “wish” when they added the 1099 employee option

Patriot has been great for our small, but growing organization. It’s extremely easy to add a new employee and make changes to their profile. We especially appreciate being able to pull up reports and customize the timelines.
It stands to reason that even with 30+ employees, that this will be a viable solution for payroll software.
Patriot payroll is being used the provide payroll services to our clients. It really is great as a one stop shop for payroll needs and is almost like another member of the team with everything that we are able to accomplish through their handling of payroll. It also allows us as the accounting firm to be customize our level of involvement with the client. Whether that just be initial setup or complete takeover.
Pros
Affordable pricing
Tax Filings Automated
Customizable
Cons
Communication for Direct Deposit Requirements
Customer Support for Partner Programs
Likelihood to Recommend
If you have a diversity of clients where payrolls are similar period over period. Patriot Payroll is absolutely outstanding in being able to take over the filings and payroll. If the initial setup is done correctly. If you are having to consistently change things with employees that are not salaried things can become difficult four day direct deposit. However, they are getting better about shortening it to two day.

Being a small engineering company, we did not need a full time financial officer to handle those types of matters. I initially used a different service to handle my payroll and tax issues, but switched to Patriot mainly because it was less expensive. They have been terrific, taking care of the things I am not very good at. Patriot was especially outstanding when a cyber criminal hacked into our business; they were able to identify and fix the problems before any real harm was done. I have told many people about Patriot Software and will continue to; if anyone has any questions about the software, you can contact me through LinkedIn.
Pros
Payroll
Payroll taxes
1099 forms
Cons
As far as my needs, Patriot fills the bill...no real shortcomings

Patriot takes care of the minutia involved with payroll and taxes.
Patriot Software handles our payroll and payroll taxes. It replaced our former payroll company. We have found it more simple to use, and was very easy to set up. Patriot walked me through the transition to make sure all of our information for taxes was current and accurate. Everything I have learned about Patriot Software payroll was great!
Pros
Set up and transition from another provider
Ease of use in running payroll
Payroll taxes are paid and forms filed without my direct intervention
Cons
none as far as we are concerned
Likelihood to Recommend
Patriot Software is very easy to set up, and their team will walk you through the transition from another payroll provider. If you don't want to have to directly intervene to make sure your taxes are paid and forms filed in a timely manner each month, they are a great answer. Their interface and communication is wonderful. I give it my highest recommendation. We have been totally satisfied and happy with their service.
Patriot Software is a great balance between a simple do-it-yourself payroll solution and a full service provider. At the maximum I had 5 employees on payroll, and at the minimum it was just me. I was previously paying a payroll provider a few hundred dollars a month to take care of this for me, and they screwed up so many times - missed pay date, depositing to incorrect accounts, overpaying, underpaying, not filing taxes correctly... it was a huge headache. Patriot's interface is very simple to use, and when I need more advanced help or technical/tax questions, their support team is lovely over either email or phone. They are fast, professional, and always strive to completely satisfy my issue. I've had a few hiccups with unemployment tax reporting and rates, and they've helped me right through that.
Pros
Simple to use
Professional support staff
Cost friendly
Cons
Lower cost option for single member payrolls
Likelihood to Recommend
In my view, Patriot is a perfect solution for businesses with 50 or fewer employees. I can imagine things get very complicated with more than 50 employees and I just can't attest to how well it would work for that size of a business.
It's brilliant (and the best I've found) for single member LLCs or businesses with under 10 employees.
