Our firm provides consultancy to several federal government clients. Currently we are using Informatica Powercenter for aDHS - USCIS client to perform ETL on daily basis (both initial full load and incremental load) into various data marts. It helps in moving data from one source to another, mainly to a data warehouse to help generate reports.
  • Data migration from multiple sources. It handles any type of source data including RDBMS, flat files, XML, mainframe etc.
  • Implementing data migration rules is very easy and efficient and reusable.
  • Development and maintenance of code is very easy. Design, development and scheduling of full load and incremental load is very easy.
  • Provides lot of features for developers to implement any kind of business rules.
Cons
  • Not worth doing simple data migration using powercenter.
  • Licensing cost.
  • Handling Blobs and clobs data types.
PowerCenter is ideal where there is a need to implement complex data migration rules and perform incremental data load. It is very efficient, easy to maintain and modify the code. It is also very efficient in connecting to data sources including XML, Flat files, spreadsheets, RDBMS, mainframe etc.

  • Informatica is a complex, full-featured data integration tool. We use Informatica primarily to extract data from our ERP systems, transform, and load it into operational and dimensional data stores.
Cons
  • We have found that upgrading from version to version can be a bit clunky and complex.
  • Watch out for their audit department. They will hunt down development environments that are in use and try to back charge you for their repositories. Ensure your development environments are properly licensed.
We are considering their PowerCenter Advanced version which will add metadata and business glossary capabilities.
  • Informatica allows us to achieve complex data integration among our systems and into our data warehouse environment. Without this tool in place, hours of manual manipulation would occur to integrate this data and extract it into the appropriate DW solution.
Our team enjoys using Informatica and feels that it is one of the best ETL tools on the market.

  • Loading the data into data warehouse.
  • Increased reporting strategy
  • Data discovery and profiling
  • Master data management
  • ata lineage and data archiving
  • IBM Cognos,ab initio

  • Industry-leading data integration technology
  • Proven best-practice implementation methodology
  • End-to-end data migration services
  • Flexible data integration support
  • Right-time delivery of high-quality data
