What is CourseArc?

CourseArc is a content authoring and management system (CAMS) designed to support organizations in creating collaborative, engaging, equitable, and accessible online content. According to the vendor, CourseArc offers a solution for course development, providing authoring tools, collaboration capabilities, accessibility compliance, and design patterns. This versatile platform is utilized by a range of professions and industries, including education (K-12 schools, colleges, and universities), corporate training, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and the healthcare industry.

Key Features

According to the vendor, CourseArc provides easy-to-use authoring tools with drag-and-drop functionality for creating online courses. It offers pre-built templates and design patterns for consistent course development and the ability to import existing content from various file formats. The platform also supports multimedia elements such as videos, images, audio, and interactive elements.

CourseArc enables real-time collaboration among multiple authors, facilitating communication and review processes. Version control tracks and manages changes made by different authors, while role-based permissions ensure secure access and editing rights for team members.

To ensure accessibility for learners with disabilities, CourseArc claims to comply with WCAG and Section 508 standards. The platform includes a built-in accessibility checker and supports alt text, closed captions, and other accessibility features.

CourseArc offers flexible assessment options, including multiple-choice, fill-in-the-blank, and essay questions. Question banks simplify question management and automated grading and feedback generation streamline the assessment process. Analytics and reporting provide insights into learner performance.

The platform seamlessly integrates with learning management systems (LMS), allowing for easy course deployment and tracking. Single sign-on (SSO) provides a unified user experience, and gradebook integration enables automatic transfer of assessment scores. CourseArc claims to comply with SCORM and xAPI standards for interoperability with other e-learning systems.

According to the vendor, CourseArc provides a robust analytics dashboard to track learner progress and engagement. Detailed reports offer information on course completion rates, assessment scores, and learner activity. Customizable reports cater to specific reporting needs, while insights into learner behavior and performance support continuous improvement.

CourseArc features a responsive design that adapts to different screen sizes and devices. A mobile app allows learners to access courses and content on-the-go, and offline access to course materials is available for learners without internet connectivity.

The platform allows the creation of courses in multiple languages and offers localization features for content translation and adaptation to different cultures. Language preference settings enable learners to choose their preferred language.

According to the vendor, CourseArc incorporates gamification elements such as badges, leaderboards, and progress tracking to increase learner engagement. A points and rewards system incentivizes participation and completion of course activities, while interactive quizzes and challenges make learning more interactive and enjoyable.

CourseArc offers interactive content blocks for creating engaging and interactive learning experiences. It supports interactive videos with branching scenarios and interactive hotspots, as well as interactive infographics, timelines, and assessments.

Companies can't remove reviews or game the system. Here's why

I use CourseArc daily to create and deliver training in a seamless and natively 508 compliant manner. The platform is very easy to use and the support from the company is phenomenal. I needed to implement a way for other team members to build products accessibly and attractively while being able to incorporate interactive elements.
  • 508-compliant natively
  • Amazing customer service
  • Minimal technical issues or downtime
  • LTI functionality so courses are LMS agnostic
  • Consistently implement updates and enhancements to the system
  • Easier access to course settings would be helpful
  • The included image library is the least impressive part of the system. You will need to upload nearly all images.
  • Some jumping on the page after saving
CourseArc allows nearly anyone the ability to build attractive, accessible, interactive products. The platform is easy to use, has some great features and allows access to courses a variety of ways, via LTI with an LMS, open public courses, or packaged into SCORMs for access via non-LTI functional LMSs or via a webpage.

CourseArc does need to enhance their image library. Because their library is very limited, users do have to upload their images the majority of the time.
  • CourseArc has reduced product build labor hours by at least 30%.
  • It has reduced quality control ‘redos’ for accessibility issues by more than 50%.
  • Staff feedback has been phenomenal. They are delighted with the build department’s work in this platform.
The learning curve is much easier and I don’t have to worry as much about the 508 compliance quality of our outputs. Knowing that most components are natively compliant frees my mind from worry and my time from checking our products with a fine tooth comb. I can now perform spot checks and remain confident that we are ‘legal’.
