Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365, great but needs perfecting
Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365
Pros
- Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 provides a single pane for access with easy use and mangement
- Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 offers the additional piece of mind knowing that all of the organizational data is backed up and protected.
- Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 allows backups to be copied to imutable blob storage with backup encryption.
Cons
- Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 can not backup directly to immutable storage
- Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 requires a license for each user rather than an ong set price.
- Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 is still being refined and has some missing features and some improvements to be made
- Quicker single file recovery for sharepoint data
- better view for statistics or user and site objects (inventory, licensing, ownership etc)
- discovered over 400 teams without owners
If there is a datacenter disaster or infrastructure related issue at the microsoft level there is potential for entire data loss.
Also, unless policies are in place to prevent deletion if the account were to get compromised you could lose everything. Without a true backup solution no data is safe.
While I am aware the feature exists it is yet to be rolled out to our company due to security concerns. Once the request is approved we will most likely be proceeding to roll this feature out as it will allow our end users to restore their own data without contacting support.
However we have used PST export for compliance and reporting reasons and have restored directly to the cloud for office content. The extra sending features in the app make send-off faster and easier.
