Overall Satisfaction with Turbonomic (formerly VMTurbo)
We use Turbonomic to fully optimize the use of our infrastructure. We also use it for health checks and assessments we perform for our customers. This allows us to meet the reduction in TCO business objective.
Pros
- Use of customizable dashboards for reporting
- Use of Planning Engine to explore what-if capacity planning scenarios
- Workload Charts for correctly sizing application infrastructure
Cons
- The current UI (Adobe Flash) is very clunky and inefficient, however their new HTML5 UI (in Demo mode) will be GA in late 2017.
- I typically see a 30%-40% ROI in the first year.
Turbonomic should be used as a control and automation platform; just using the monitoring feature is really a waste of investment. Generally, customers should use the vMotion and Storage vMotion functionality for test and development clusters and as they gain confidence, use this in production infrastructure as well. After that, customers can start investigating the advanced use of the Policy engine to solve business and technical problems.
