Overall Satisfaction with Scale Computing Platform

Production servers running our business, including SQL and Oracle Databases. The scale was easy to deploy, and its simplicity makes it ideal for smaller IT shops with limited resources. After Broadcom bought out VMware, replacing it was required, causing a spike in VMware licensing costs.

Pros

  • Easy to Deploy.
  • Ease of use.
  • Updates are easy and fast.

Cons

  • Migration process was a little painful.
  • More views from the web GUI to allow some customization.
  • Alerting certain things could be better when critical items happen in the environment.
Overall, support has been great, but the migration process has lacked in some areas. The migration from VMware to Scale is taking much longer than anticipated, and they are changing the process to improve it, but overall, it still takes much longer than what I originally sold.
  • Reduce costs from switching from VMware.
  • Less time needed to dedicate to do updates to infrastructure.
  • Less time administrating the virtual cluster than with VMware.
The scale is as robust as VMware's but needs more vendor support, such as VEEAM, for backup. Scale overall costs caused us to move to the platform to reduce our overall costs from hardware and maintenance costs.

Due to its simplicity, it works great for smaller IT shops. However, it may not work if vendors are not fully supporting the platform. The scale needs to be more mainstream for some vendors to accept the platform and support their products, creating potential support issues.
