Overall Satisfaction with Recurly

It's used for recurring billing for one of our clients. The organization uses it to manage their subscription billing, as well as their general day-to-day billing needs. It addresses issues involving storage of sensitive data and PCI compliance, as well as provides a catch-all solution for billing without in-depth integration.

Pros

  • Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance
  • Recurring billing
  • Security

Cons

  • API documentation
  • Pricing
  • Native clients (e.g., Python)
  • Offloads issues regarding storage of sensitive data to a 3rd party, thus lessening the burden of PCI compliance without sacrificing security.
  • Stripe
Recurly offers a better and more robust API. Recurring billing is much more complex with Stripe than with Recurly. For small dollar amount transactions, Recurly typically makes more sense for our clients than Strip does.
It's inexpensive (relatively), it's robust, and it's already in our system. Three good reasons why changing to an alternative would be more costly.
Where recurring billing and subscriptions are primary concerns, Recurly is a cut above the rest.
