Overall Satisfaction with QuickBooks Desktop Pro

I use QB Desktop Pro for a small healthcare client on a cash basis. The Desktop version is easy to navigate for accounting clerks who can be trained to use accounting software to achieve reporting needs.

Pros

  • Easy to invoice customers.
  • Issuing payment to vendors is a simple process.
  • Standard reports meet most of the business requirements.

Cons

  • If a company wants to use QB Desktop Pro on an accrual basis, the user shouldn't be able to easily change the dates of transactions.
  • The user should be restricted from changing the distribution of vendor bills after a period is closed.
  • The subscription cost of the Desktop version has increased, which is only sustainable for larger companies.
  • Small companies can't afford the increased cost and have switched to online version.
Although QB Desktop Pro isn't a true ERP system, it works well when users are trained on the features and how they relate to the accounting concepts (double entry, Assets vs Liabilities, Revenue and expense accounts).
I selected QB Desktop Pro because of the client size, industry, and accounting staff.

Although QB Desktop is too easy for a non-accountant to make mistakes, it is well suited for accountants or accounting clerks who are well-trained in using the software and are trained on basic accounting concepts.
