Overall Satisfaction with Oracle PeopleSoft HCM
Oracle PeopleSoft HCM is our main HR system. It is used to onboard new hires, as well as providing a feed to many other systems we use on a daily basis. We use Oracle PeopleSoft HCM to provide one location for HR-related business within the organization. This helps us bring down silos that existed before our implementation, integrating the HR system across multiple locations for easy access to all HR data.
Pros
- On-boarding of new staff
- Highly customizable
- Very robust data points when used properly
Cons
- User Interface, even under Fluid UI is still the same old tired Oracle PeopleSoft HCM
- In my opinion, costs far too much for most enterprises to implement especially if any customization is needed
- In my opinion it has gone downhill ever since Oracle acquired PeopleSoft - they have taken on the same mentality as Oracle which unfortunately took the PeopleSoft name down several notches for me personally
- Has made onboarding new hires easier and decreased some turnover
- Saves hours by bringing data from multiple systems together
- In my experience, causes the need for excessive training because of its non-intuitive user interface and long-outdated data entry routines

Evaluating Oracle PeopleSoft HCM and Competitors
Yes - Our system was 100% homegrown. We could no longer manage the sheer number of employees and locations within this antiquated system. Oracle PeopleSoft HCM was chosen first for our financial systems and eventually we added HCM to compensate for the inability to integrate our systems fully to the old system. Now, systems flow well.
- Integration with Other Systems
- Other
Ability to customize was crucial. We had to meet all needs of the business and even though it takes a lot of effort, the product is fully customizable and able to communicate through the various modules seamlessly, once tested and all bugs are ironed out.
No change. We have a good handle on how we evaluate and select solutions for our organization.
Oracle PeopleSoft HCM Implementation
- Implemented in-house
- Third-party professional services
Change management was a big part of the implementation and was well-handled - Plan, plan, and plan some more. Ask so many questions that your stakeholders begin to think you are crazy. This product has many pitfalls. In fact, all ERP solutions - regardless of their promises - require MASSIVE planning for successful implementation. Don't fall for any third-party who tells you this is something they can do quickly and easily. Use all the tools you have to ensure everyone in your organization is on-board with the design before you begin implementation phases.
- Mistakes in customized modules
- Data miscommunication
- Failed test cases
Oracle PeopleSoft HCM Training
Configuring Oracle PeopleSoft HCM
Plan, plan, plan. You need to make sure you know exactly how your system should perform and what it should do before you begin configuration at all. Make sure you invest the time in a proper change management phase with a steering committee and/or advisory board so that you capture the needs of the entire organization before you begin anything.
Yes - we have customized the interface extensively - We have many needs that are not handled out-of-the-box with Oracle PeopleSoft HCM. In my opinion, customizations are absolutely not easy with this product. You'll need extensive resources with the extreme technical knowledge required to create any customization within this and any other Oracle product. The customization requires a lot of coding, and a complete understanding of the backend processes and tables within the product.
Yes - we have added extensive custom code - Same as with the customizations - we need things to operate in a specific way. As with customizing modules, there is really nothing easy about customizing code. You'll need a team to help you determine what will be needed and how they will accomplish it based on the outcome of your design phase.
It cannot be said enough. Prepare yourselves well and you will have a better outcome with any custom configuration of this product. Get the input, vet the input, adjust the input, and make sure it is approved so you have a clear roadmap to follow. You'll need this to determine just who you'll need on your team to make your implementation successful.
Oracle PeopleSoft HCM Support
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
None | Slow Resolution Poor followup Less knowledgeable Problems left unsolved Not kept informed Escalation required Difficult to get immediate help Need to explain problems multiple times Support doesn't seem to care Slow Initial Response |
No - we have a team in-house that can support us much more quickly and understands our business and its needs.
Using Oracle PeopleSoft HCM
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
None | Do not like to use Unnecessarily complex Difficult to use Requires technical support Inconsistent Slow to learn Cumbersome Feel nervous using Lots to learn |
- Employee self-service
- Direct-entry hire
- Administration of roles and security
- Understanding fields and their meaning
- Navigating - particularly because there are just too many different ways to perform so many different functions that it's confusing
Yes - Good. Fluid UI has made the mobile experience much better in just about every PeopleSoft product.
Oracle PeopleSoft HCM Reliability
Integrating Oracle PeopleSoft HCM
- PeopleSoft Financials (easier due to being in the same product family)
- Cognos (IBM) Reports
- Data Repository (our own data warehouse)
The design is to have seamless integration with the available data from the integrated systems. This requires a lot of SQL and testing work. No matter what you are integrating there will need to be multiple rounds of testing to determine if the desired outcome is being fulfilled. Once set up, these integrations have seemed to perform admirably.
- Timekeeping System (UKG)
- File import/export
- Single Signon
- API (e.g. SOAP or REST)
Plan ahead and get opinion on whether the integration is even needed or worth the effort. This is a costly undertaking that could end with the integration not being fully possible. Get the information up front and save time and money. This is the way with any enterprise solution - plan, get input from experts, create and test, implement.
Relationship with Oracle
Upgrading Oracle PeopleSoft HCM
Yes - Very smoothly. No impacts. New graphical interface really enhanced our system. This was one of the easiest upgrades I've been through in my 27 years of ERP experience. I'd say Oracle has made strides in this department since acquiring PeopleSoft. I like the way upgrades are being released more than before.
- Fluid UI Navigation
- Searchable Menu
- Navigation Tiles and Groups
- More UI enhancements to tie in all components
- Adjustments to tables, fields, and other content to make them more user friendly
