Overall Satisfaction with Oracle Enterprise Manager
Oracle Enterprise Manager is being used by the database administrators in the IT department. It servers as an important tool and interface for database monitoring.
Pros
- It manages all relevant targets (hosts, Oracle databases, and listeners) in one place
- We can use it to quickly drill down an issue to its detail
- In addition to monitoring and performance tuning, it can be used to present information effectively
Cons
- It relies on a monitoring agent to be installed on monitored target hosts, and that dependency can be problematic at times
- The performance of Oracle Enterprise Manager itself can be slow
- It makes databases easier to manage, and enhances team collaboration
- Alerts and reports are more accessible and manageable, which leads to quicker resolving of issues
- We are able to present oracle databases performance status and history more effectively through graphics
Toad for Oracle is more suited for individual users who have a strong focus on database development, and it is not as comprehensive as Oracle Enterprise Manager. While it is quite decent in logical database layer tasks, such as schema objects and SQL, it lacks visibility into host level and I/O layer performance stats.
