BACCC remote lab environment takes the commute out of the loop for Bay Area ICT students
Overall Satisfaction with NETLAB+
I am the project lead for the Bay Area Community College Consortium (BACCC) shared NETLAB+ datacenter, at Cabrillo College, which provides lab technology providing remote access for ICT students to hands-on training in industry hardware and software. BACCC supports 28 greater San Francisco Bay Area community colleges.
Pros
- Shared resources
- Only requires a browser and Internet for access
- Scheduling
Cons
- Supporting graphic intensive applications like Adobe CS and Autodesk.
- The shared datacenter has saved hundreds of thousands of dollars that might have been spent by the 28 individual colleges it supports.
- During the past year, and through the pandemic, over 130,000 hours of lab time were accrued.
