Overall Satisfaction with NetApp FAS series
Our NetApp's served file shares, VMware, and Microsoft LUN data. This was used across our organization. We went through 2 hardware refreshes. Originally we needed to start with entry-level SAN and move away from file server-based storage, but it expanded over time.
Pros
- Hardware is flawless.
- Support is top shelf.
- Many in one solution.
Cons
- Cost, like most things with NetApp.
- Upgrades challenging for the gun-shy.
- Deduplication problematic when it fails.
- Management
- Support for popular software suites.
- Recent hardware technology.
- Great return due to hardware longevity.
- Since we expanded slowly, significant rack real estate was used.
NetApp stacked nicely and gave enterprise-level usability for snapshot-based backups. Our previous RPO was several hours. It was selected prior to me arriving at the company, but It was selected for the hardware refreshes due to its compatibility with several other vendors, like CommVault and VMware.
