Overall Satisfaction with MeisterTask

I am a freelancer and work mainly on my own. I [started using] Meister Task after I used the mind mapping app Meister also makes.

The HUGE value for me is being able to empty my head into a mind map, play around with ideas and then group them into tasks and then send them to a time-dependent tool like MindMeister.

Pros

  • Both the iOS and Android app were GREAT from the beginning. Also you can easily open a mind map in the iOS app from the task app. AND it works off line - so far I have not had an issue with re-syncing.
  • Built in time tracking. I only use this for myself, not for tracking how other people work - it gives me a concrete idea of my own productivity. (Mobile and Online sync in real time.)
  • It is really fun to use! I know this sounds simple, but the bright and colourful design of this app makes it fun and positive to use! It is at the opposite end of the path to some 'dark corporate' UXs.

Cons

  • It only "talks to" to Slack and MS 365 - Of course there is a Zapier connector - but I'd like to be able to easily move tasks out of here to other programs like Trello that I use with other teams.
  • A full view calendar would be very welcome!
  • Once you have committed to this tool you will save time between ideas and execution. I have not used it with groups of people, however, I know that when a group of people gathers around one app and works with it, things get done.
  • I have saved time in the space between moving ideas from a [map] into here - that saves me hours of navel gazing!
  • Gathering information on one card for one blog, podcast or email newsletter is another key time saver and being able to link to folders and files directly from within the app is heaven!
From my perspective, MeisterTask's unique value comes from its deep connection with MindMeister (mind mapping tool) starting with this and then being able instantly to sync the map into a Kanban/scrum type board.

I am a very heavy Trello user and most of my work is held in Trello - both tools are exceptional. Trello has the edge because more people use it, MeisterTask has the edge because of the mind mapping thing. Personally, I find it hard to 'think' or 'brainstorm' in Trello - it works better for me keeping focused.

I used stories on board to 'think' before sending it to Trello and this worked for me too - however I found myself coming back to the mind mapping thing when I needed to grind on a stream of creative consciousness.

Collecting assets or information on a card for a post or email is best in Airboard and then linking to the Meister Task or Trello card.
Trello does have a slight edge here with the pro version as MailChimp, Publicate and Twitter link directly to each card with the power up feature.

This tool REALLY works for me because of how it is connected to the mind mapping tool and this SAVES hours (and paper) when thinking through the project and then turning the thought into a timeline in a tool.

It is one thing to have a planner/roadmap but the luxury of feeding in that tool from a mind map can not be underestimated!

I am interested in both Trello and Meistertask. I would have appreciated it if Bernie Mitchell (since he has used both) had also talked about any differences in the very similar BOARDS and cards used in both programs. In studying PM and TM software for five days straight, I stand (or perhaps I've fallen over onto the floor) stunned and shocked that there are not more detailed comparisons between programs. They all seem like "basic" features reviews. Also, it's mostly the FREE/beginning programs that get mentioned. I'm a photographer. I often go to websites that compare cameras and the detail, side-by-side comparisons is exemplary. Yes, it's more "hardware" based, but it sure would be nice if these software comparisons (or even the reviews) were more detailed. I am curious how the basic planning/doing/done Kanban features (checklists, notes, reminders, calendar) compare in Trello or Meistertask. ANY important differences? Oh.... I know... I'm suppose to just go TRY the free program for a week and see if I like it, right? There's about five I'd love try out, but I don't have the time. Sorry for a bit of angst on this, but I'm not impressed with ratings and comparisons of PM and T M (or ToDo) software... deciding is almost a nightmare.
