Overall Satisfaction with Linode
We use Linode as the backbone of our website hosting services, which allows us to deliver top-level hosting performance to our clients while also allowing us to control costs. The ability to swiftly spin up a Linode in virtually any major region in the US and get our stack up & running gives us the flexibility to provide the resources needed to ensure client websites & services operate quickly & efficiently.
Pros
- Value.
- Uptime.
- Support.
- Features.
- Flexibility.
Cons
- TrustRadius recommends I add at least three issues, but I can't. Perhaps we'll run into issues as we continue to scale, but so far, it's been nothing but positive.
- Positive cost-benefit service.
- Granular control over web hosting needs, including scaling up or down.
- Flexibility to test new ideas on low-cost hardware to always stay ahead of the curve.
To be honest, while we deliberated between the two, we went with Linode from the beginning and never looked back. Part of the reasoning, admittedly, is they are a company more local to us than DO. And, as a South Jersey business, having Linode in Philadelphia vs. DO in NY, we wanted to support a more "hometown" business.
The total cost of ownership, while not necessarily cheap or lucrative as we maintain lower profits on web hosting to compete, the investment has been positive and affordable. And when we compared the offering to DigitalOcean and others years ago, Linode's price-to-value was either on par or slightly better than their competition. Every year or so, when we evaluate our digital infrastructure on Linode against newer offerings, we find that not only do they continue to compete on price, they continue to compete on what they offer. It's clear to us that they aren't complacent and continue to maintain a competitive edge.
We had one issue back around 2015 where the Newark datacenter went offline for a few hours. Obviously, that was a freak event and not their fault. However, before and since then there have been absolutely zero issues. When you factor in the total time we've been with Linode, we must have had well over 99% uptime.
