Overall Satisfaction with IBM Cloud Bare Metal Servers

We are supplementing our on-prem servers, with subscription, cloud based infrastructure. It provides opex, variable costing to help with dynamic server utilization.

Pros

  • Easy to provision
  • Stable
  • Reasonable performance

Cons

  • Too expensive
  • Lack high-end compute
  • Very Intel centric. Need to expand POWER systems offerings.
  • Need PaaS offerings, i.e DB2, websphere, etc.
  • We did not use it enough to impact bottom line
  • If it were more cost effective, it could have provided ROI through more granular infrastructure
We also use Azure. It is more cost effective, and provides a wide selection of PaaS. It lacks POWER systems infrastructure.
Well suited for lightweight, Intel-based compute, where on-prem solution is not available.
