Overall Satisfaction with Dropbox
Dropbox.com is used by few like minded people in our organization. I personally have been using it over the past 5 years or so. I and my team are using dropbox to share files - such that we could avoid redundant files across our projects. Though we are not able to use it like a software repository management system like SVN or even github.com, it serves our purpose to share small files. I have been a premium user of dropbox over the past 5+ years. I had got free dropbox space when I bought my laptop and a new mobile. Its indeed a pleasure to use this software.
Pros
- Collaboration of both users and files
- Sharing of files and links
- Use of paper and showcase softwares of dropbox
Cons
- The cloud space is expensive and hence is dropbox.com
- Box.com for example provides 10Gb, which something like dropbox could also inculcate.
- I feel that sometimes a minimum free space of 2Gb does not suffice any purpose
- We could avoid duplication of files
- A developer can feel secure and happy with contentment to access the same set of files across 3 devices
- In fact, we created a group for sharing only dropbox links. We found creation and sharing of links for files is an awesome functionality.
- Box and ownCloud
Box.com is slightly better when it comes to storage space it provides to normal users. ownCloud has an advantage of sharing and keeping everything written in our hard disk. This could be a nice feature as well a horrifying one - thanks to security features. Each software has its own plus and negative points while using them. It depends on how the users use software based on his/her demands or requirements.
