Overall Satisfaction with Control-M

We use it for all of our workload automation needs. The heaviest load we ask of it is to handle all of our batch billing processes. It replaced our old workload automation tool, UC4, and we never looked back. it’s been in place since 2020 and was installed during the pandemic.

Pros

  • Application integrator jobs
  • Managing our billing batch
  • File transfers
  • Uptime is excellent

Cons

  • The ability to choose different Linux shells to execute OS jobs on with Linux agents. This is sorely needed
  • The web interface needs to have the network view in the monitoring domain similar to the thick client. It’s cumbersome without it
  • Check in/check out/workspace mgmt could be better in the web interface
  • Speeds up recovery time when there are issues because we can build problem resolution into process flows
  • Application integrator has allowed us to build literally anything we need if the product doesn’t support it out or the box
  • Cuts down on the time required for on-call after hours support due to automating common fixes
10 - Application administrators. They maintain all of our Control-M environments and also build and monitor all workflows
I’d give it a 10 but I think the web version needs work. I mentioned specifics in earlier responses.
Control-M has proven to be much more reliable and not prone to crashes like UC4 had. It’s also more versatile since we can build almost anything we may need with the application integrator.

It’s well suited for what it’s designed for: workload automation. Honestly, it excels at this. Head and shoulders above other tools out there in my opinion. We have tried to get it to handle patch mgmt and it’s not so good at that but we make it work. its just complex

Using Control-M

10 - We have an application administration team that has been trained on the management/administration of Control-M. They handle all of the day to day operations as well as creating new job flows. On this team we have a couple who are considered subject matter experts that handle the more in-depth administration.
  • managing all file transfer operations to/from vendors
  • managing all financial batch processing for the organization
  • automation that is capable of detecting issues and fixing them autonomously
  • building self-healing process flows that can identify and correct issues autonomously
  • utilizing Application Integrator to build an integration into one of the most prominent billing systems in the world
  • save time for not only our team, but everyone impacted by the implementation of Control-M
  • we are going to continue to expand automation whenever/wherever applicable. If it needs to be repeated, it will be automated
  • managing automated operating system patching
It has, hands down, been the best investment we've made thus far into making our jobs easier over time. We used a product previously for this, but it was not nearly as capable as Control-M. It's save us so much time overall, and we are thankful such a product exists.
