Overall Satisfaction with Control-M
We use Control-M as our main scheduler in our Enterprise. It handles Batch scheduling for our ERP, Business warehouse, CRM, and most all of our applications, whether we want to run a script, program, or transfer files. Control-M addresses the problem of having end-to-end continuity among different applications, whether they be on-premises or in the cloud.
Pros
- Control-M automates routine cyclic processes.
- It provides notifications when issues arise.
- It provides an easy interface for monitoring Batch jobs.
- It provides cross platform connections across numerous platforms.
Cons
- There is so much information available it is easy to get lost in the support forums.
- As with all vendors not all support staff are as knowledgeable.
- Command line utilities are not easy to use.
- Control-M has helped us to ensure critical processes are both on schedule and monitored.
- The logging helps us to quickly troubleshoot problems.
- It provides insight for future scheduling.
- It helps to avoid conflicts with other like processes.
Redwood RunMyJobs seemed impressive as well since it was also cross-platform, flexible, and versatile. However, we went with Control-M because it was less expensive and we were already using it on our mainframe environment. The distributed version of Control-M was much more user-friendly due to the GUI instead of the command-line interface used on the mainframe.
