Overall Satisfaction with ConnectWise Automate (formerly LabTech)
Our organization uses ConnectWise Automate as a central point for end-user support and automation management. We leverage Automate as a scripting repository which provides us with the flexibility to apply configurations based on machine information such as installed applications, site where the machines are located at, and other parameters such as resources available. Automate allows us to 'script it once' and deliver many times, as a managed services provider, this is of crucial importance as it is a multitenant architecture which we can apply to all of our customers based on service tiers that they have signed up for.
Pros
- Scripting.
- Centralized configuration management.
- Healthchecks.
Cons
- The GUI interface is archaic.
- Scripting engines could use work to be more PowerShell native.
- Ability to work in VDI environments.
- Easier to onboard managed customers.
- Requires SME to run and maintain.
- Ability to automate a large number of common tickets.
- SolarWinds MSP Manager, Chef, Puppet Enterprise (formerly Puppet Data Center Automation), Terraform, Atera, NinjaRMM and Ansible
Automate is one of the best when it comes to RMM-applications in terms of features and ability to execute, however, where it is weak is in the necessity for an SME to run and maintain it and while it is quick and gets the job done, it is difficult to stack it up to a full automation suite. The biggest advantage that Automate has over its competition is that it is a very good bang for your buck in terms of value since full automation suites like Terraform, chef, puppet and Ansible take a lot more SMEs to maintain on an on-going basis. Our organization has tried many of those technologies and has ended up sticking to LabTech after syncing a lot of money in DevOps and realizing that Windows management for MSPs is simply too mutable for a full automation suite unless you have a ton of employees to manage the solution.
