CommVault- A great Backup!
Overall Satisfaction with CommVault
Disaster recovery, as it greatly minimizes the effect on business being able to get data back quickly. The functionality is dynamic, complex, and provides us the freedom to choose infrastructure and what not, as it works with just about every major vendor. We're also a reseller, and I've seen CommVault implemented in dozens of customer datacenters.
Pros
- Disaster Recovery
- Virtualization
- Backup
- Replication
Cons
- IOPS
- Dynamic provisioning
- Connectivity
- ROI is great
- TCO is easily calcuated
- Training of staff is challenging
- Hyper V
Hyper V is the only other solution we looked at internally, but I know Zerto is another very popular one, and Nutanix is also a very strong competitor in this field. But I think CommVault is the best suited, best supported, and most scalable solution available, so that's why we went with it.

Evaluating CommVault and Competitors
Yes - Netbackup was replaced. the support and maintenance costs were becoming too much and the usability of the platform seemed to be diminished. We wanted better integration with the virtualization efforts we had made to modernize our environment, as well as cloud connectivity and mobbility. Commvault was the best choice for these use cases.
- Price
- Product Features
- Product Usability
Price was definitely a factor, but was not the only factor considered when making the decision. Features and integration/usability was definitely the primary decision making factor, as we have a lot of sensitive information that must be backed up and available at all times. Becuause of Commvault's ability to address these needs, we went with them.
I think we would evaluate more than just two competing vendors in the space, but with that being said, we're very happy with the implementation and usage we're getting from CommVault. I think we would have gotten vendor installation services, as well as would have upped our support level, but for the most part, we're very happy.
