Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Nexus Series Switches

We're using Cisco Nexus Series Switches for our Netcenter Operation center to perform L2 connectivity, also to provide physical connectivity to our different services (SDWAN firewalls, LAN to LAN connectivity, Cloud providers connectivity, Internet Connectivity), we need serious solution to address low latency network performance and robust hardware. Cisco provides us what we need and Cisco OS is a must known.

Pros

  • High performance
  • High speed connectivity
  • vPC solution

Cons

  • Licensing
  • Simple central management (SAAS integration ? Meraki dashboard ?)
  • Upgrade path
  • Long term solution
  • High scalabilty also long term provisionning
  • Nexus OS is a known OS also usable from any network engineer
They are fully usable and 1U switches provide a lot of enough connectivity for us for example, we're using all connectivity (from 1G to 25G) and uplinks are configured through 25G links and provide us 50G inter datacenter. Airflow is comfortable to be chosen and permit air cooling respectfully is the datacenter.
We made a simple overview of the market, Cisco is still a leader. vPC is a must know for any Cisco lover and any network engineer, actually is the most simple way to aggregate switches and provide high performance without going to a more complex solution and also we choose to keep standard solution of the market.

Do you think Cisco Nexus Series Switches delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Cisco Nexus Series Switches's feature set?

Yes

Did Cisco Nexus Series Switches live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Cisco Nexus Series Switches go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Cisco Nexus Series Switches again?

Yes

Cisco Nexus Series Switches is well suited, for any spine and leaf architecture has it could be done through ACI, EVPN, or use as L2 only it could be used in different environments and thanks to these high scalability it could be evolve easily. Some advanced solutions like AI or centralized management, are less easy to integrate and need other solutions to interact and also not always planned since the installation.

Using Cisco Nexus Series Switches

4 - They allow connectivity to Internet, SDWAN solutions, connectivity to partners, to cloud providers, and to datacenter. They are the network center but also built that if one having issue, no impact will be display for the business. They have been installed for years and thats why we chose Cisco Nexus Series Switches solution.
4 - We are actually 4 network engineers and each of us can administrate them and could make some big changes on the solution like interconnect a new DC as we have all skills on Nexus OS and we could implement new solutions or use automation solution as Cisco Nexus Series Switches is automation ready but not us actually on this perimeter.
  • High performance
  • Connectivity possibilities
  • Scalability integration
  • Cisco Nexus-as-Code
  • Monitoring with Splunk
  • Automated Network Topology Verification
  • Automation
  • Scalability of bandwidth
  • Inter DC connectivity
Actually if we need to implement or develop our actual DC we will use Cisco Nexus Series Switches again. The solution is well known and we will be able to interconnect easily the switches, as we're not using all the possibilities of features we know what is solution is a long term solution.

Evaluating Cisco Nexus Series Switches and Competitors

  • Ease of Use
The factor decision wasnt most technical aspect and the fact that Cisco is known by every network engineer.
We dont change anything, the solution is as requested, technically and for high connectivity and density they provide the best solution

Cisco Nexus Series Switches Training

The solution is well documented from Cisco, everything could be found on Cisco websites, even advanced configuration are well related on cisco.com. You could find customer implementation too, design guides ebooks or white papers also everything to configure Cisco Nexus Series Switches by yourself. Cisco is learned at school and between iOS or Nexus OS a lot of command are still the same.

Cisco Nexus Series Switches Support

Also have a complete feedback during our request to the support, they provide us the documentation, they were ready on call and were very helpful. They provide a great follow of the ticket until the customer validation, resolution. Some specific topic, it could take more time, but be seure to have an answer
ProsCons
Quick Resolution
Good followup
Knowledgeable team
Problems get solved
Kept well informed
Immediate help available
Support cares about my success
Quick Initial Response
Escalation required
We purchase premium support to active the way to have the quickest answer to our request. As there is already someone on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week you can have a technician and ready to escalade if necessary in some specific environment its cleary mandatory, the support should answer you in 15minutes, it couldnt be better.
For this product, for specific context, we had a dedicted version recommened, same advice for any other cisco solution they provide adpative solutions

Using Cisco Nexus Series Switches

ProsCons
Relatively simple

Well integrated
Consistent
Quick to learn
Convenient
Feel confident using
Familiar
None
  • vPC configuration
  • vlan configuration
  • routing configuration
  • vrf configuration

  • python implementation

Relationship with Cisco

The sale process is a specific aspect where we had to negociate with integrator and cisco directly, its was easy to work with them as they want to provide the best solution, sometimes maybe a higher model but they had to challenge, at the end eveyone need to find the best for the customer
Actually, the cisco network team/sales is easy to join, we currently obtain meeting point for any troubleshooting or archietcture need or RMA issue, they provide products rodamap constently. They have a complete overview of the customer perimeter and thats really appreciated.Even if it's the sale team, they are technically always ready to help
The principle terms, are mostly restricted, i don't even know what was able to be negotiate anything other than the price. As models could be negociate, but if higher models are not necessary I'm not pretty sure that is judicious.
RMA or technical assistance are basely included. May I add the dedicated CSM affected to our perimeter but i was not enroll in that negociation
We recently use the entreprise agreement on another perimeter, I could say that is linked to the typology of deployment. On our nexus perimeter, pricing and contract terms are defined without any evolution also is quite simple.
The simple way is to compare with other technologies, with the same cisco products into other customer context
