Wireless in K12 Education
Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst 9800 Series Wireless Controllers
For a school district, students and teachers use the wireless on a day to day basis. We are 1 to 1 on student and staff devices so we have over 60k devices constantly on the wireless network. The Cisco Catalyst 9800 Series Wireless Controllers help us keep all those devices connected while being mobile.
Pros
- Wireless Policy Tags
- SSID WLAN creation
- RRM RF calculations
Cons
- Code bugs between different model access points
- Static tags for static tag list show mac address instead of AP name
- TAC customer experience
- Able to support 60k mobile devices
- Central management of 3500 APs
- RRM RF capabilities
- Cisco Prime LAN Management (discontinued)
We are able to access the RF environment. Check on any AP down issues. Check AP events for issues that may have caused issues in the past.
For us we have it gives a central management for controlling 3500 aps where this would be a full time job without the controller.
Working with Aruba and clearpass was an easier transition but the cost was the roadblock for us.
