Overall Satisfaction with Cisco 1000 Series Integrated Services Routers (ISR 1000)
We currently are using the ASR 1001-X as a border router for our main site, along with a smaller site. It is very robust, with the main site router running for 500+ days at one point with no issues. We only took it offline for patching and once due to a power issue in the DC. It is a very robust router that is very capable of handling over 1Gbps traffic on any given day.
Pros
- Great WAN Aggregation
- Scalable - Start off at 1Gbps and easily go to 10Gbps
- Great performance for Security, Crypto and NAT
Cons
- Limited Port availabilty. Even with modules, you will need something bigger as you grow
- WAN aggregation
- Embedded packet capture
- ASR 1001-x - 1 RU for maximum space use
We are a mainly CISCO shop, so Junipers are out for the most part. We chose the ASR1001-x as it was an upgrade from the ASR1004 we were using previously. We required the ability to process a lot of traffic using 1G and 10G interfaces, with scalability and security features that match.
