Overall Satisfaction with Camtasia

The whole organization uses Camtasia. We are a small company, with four people. Two of us are trainers and we record online video courses. We use Camtasia to create professional training videos and our in-house editors use it to add features and logos, etc. to the videos to make it consistent with our brand. We need a reliable program that can be used by the entire team to create professional video. We also do green-screen video and Camtasia is great for that.

Pros

  • Advanced editing features
  • Ability to add graphic overlays like logos
  • Green-screen capabilities
  • Lots of editing options that allow you to easily adjust size, space, timing, etc.

Cons

  • Limited cross-compatibility with different versions. One team member upgraded and everyone had to upgrade as a result because they couldn't transfer files and work on them as a team.
  • Some editing features are a bit challenging to figure out such as transitions and animations. It's not intuitive and things change with versions so if you find an online tutorial it won't apply if it's the wrong version.
  • Large file size outputs. It would be nice to sync them to a cloud vs. needing to keep an external hard drive handy to store files. When working on a team, the team has had to physically transport hard drives to share files.
  • It has saved us time in that we can efficiently edit video using hotkey shortcuts to zip through editing.
  • It has saved us time because we can create a template video with standards such as logo placement and caption animations. Then all we need to do is swap out the video and update the captions and it's done.
  • We've had to invest in external hard drives to store all the files.
Camtasia has more features and more customization options than the other products we've used. It allows us to record presentations while keeping a video of the presenter in the corner. It has green-screen features, which a lot of other software does not have. Some programs have a few templates for graphic overlays but they are very limited, or the other programs focus on just one type of video. Camtasia offers tons of flexibility and customization and allows you to create professional videos.
I haven't used the online support much at all, but when I did, they were fast to respond and had a simple resolution. Support, however, is available via other users and is relatively easy to find. There are a ton of tutorial videos available to learn how to use certain features. However, I feel that there is a gap in support and there could be more up-to-date tutorials for all of the available features.

Camtasia is fantastic for professional video editing. It has lots of features that allow you to create a video that is polished and professional. It also is easy to learn and user-friendly. The hotkeys make using the software much more efficient. If you just need basic editing, however, there are plenty of free programs that work just as well. But for a professional setting, a program like Camtasia has all the features you need.

    Hola Allison, interesante reseña, nunca había participado en este foro pero me animó a hacerlo. Hasta hace poco era usuario de versión 2019, abrí varios proyectos de esta versión y solo observé un mensaje que decía que debía actualizar el proyecto, hice un simple "aceptar" y todo marchó muy bien. La verdad no se, si no se acepta esa actualización del proyecto si fallaría, ¿podría ser eso lo que les pasó? Y, sobre la nube, Camtasia 2020, trae la posibilidad de integrar google drive, tanto para importar medios, como para exportar resultados finales de edición. He probado y va de maravilla. Pero claro no todo "es color de rosa" para mi, me ha dado problema el plugin de audio (para grabar el audio del sistema) por el momento mi alternativa es la grabadora de Snagit y luego paso el vídeo a Camtasia 2020. También tuve problemas con: Al hacer un proyecto nuevo (en blanco) e inmediatamente hacer clic derecho para cambiar la proporción del proyecto, Camtasia se cierra. Solución temporal a esto a sido: Abrir el proyecto nuevo, comenzar a agregar medios a usar, guardarlo y luego cambiar la proporción. Para mis dos problemas estoy manteniendo contacto con soporte técnico, lo recomiendo mucho. Espero Sirva. Google Traductor: Hello Allison, interesting review, I had never participated in this forum but encouraged me to do so. Until recently I was a user of version 2019, I opened several projects of this version and I only observed a message that said that I should update the project, I made a simple "accept" and everything went very well. The truth is I don't know, if you don't accept that project update if it fails, could that be what happened to you? And, on the cloud, Camtasia 2020, brings the possibility of integrating google drive, both to import media and to export final editing results. I've tried it and it's going great. But of course not everything "is rosy" for me, the audio plugin has given me a problem (to record the system's audio) at the moment my alternative is the Snagit recorder and then I pass the video to Camtasia 2020. I also had Problems with: When doing a new (blank) project and immediately right-clicking to change the project aspect ratio, Camtasia shuts down. Temporary solution to this has been: Open the new project, start adding media to use, save it and then change the proportion. For my two problems I am keeping in touch with technical support, I highly recommend it. I hope it serves.
