Overall Satisfaction with BlueJeans Events

It is used by our entire organization to hold classes, webinars, and info sessions. It allows us to effectively meet virtually with a large crowd and minimize any disruptions. It further is easy to use, easy to access and allow anyone in our organization to access from wherever they are. With COVID, this has been especially important for us to maintain these strong connections, and this platform has enabled that for us.

Pros

  • Ease of use.
  • Ease of access.
  • Professional design.

Cons

  • Improved connection ability: Connections frequently go out or audio/visual cut off.
  • More functionality to interact with audience.
  • Ability to see screen when sharing.
  • Increased audience attendance.
  • Increased access to our audience base.
  • Cost savings of virtual vs in-person events.
There are technical glitches and slowdowns. We often see audio, visual, and connections go out throughout events which can be frustrating. Pages usually load slowly and sometimes the audio gets distorted. The calendar feature is quite nice and allows us to easily schedule events. Overall, from a performance perspective, it does what it needs to do but could be a bit higher quality in terms of reliability.
BlueJeans was selected because of the prior contract the organization had. Zoom has been used in several individual instances by individuals and they have said they like Zoom's appearance, quality, and reliability better. Moreover, more clients have access to Zoom and accounts which help on that front. BlueJeans would need to increase its quality and reliability better during meetings in order to match up to Zoom.

Zoom Events, Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365), Microsoft Teams
It is well suited for large events, classes, webinars, info sessions where a large audience is needed and the speakers are the only ones presenting. It also allows audience comments and questions, which is quite helpful. It is less appropriate for small group meetings or discussions as those require multiple people to have access to tools such as sharing a screen and are much easier to set up.

Using BlueJeans Events

15000 - Students, Faculty, and Staff - They use it to deliver events, meetings, and lectures to students and guests. The primary use is for lectures for large classes so the capacity is able to handle the large number of students. Their functions are primarily focused on delivering lectures to students and more.
50 - The IT department is very skilled in addressing the issues and support needed to run and support BlueJeans at our institution. They have a variety of technical backgrounds especially in computer science and IT needed to help troubleshoot necessary issues. Being a large academic institution, the IT department is very skilled and adept at solving issues as they arise.

  • Fundraising Events
  • Theatrical Events
  • KeyNote Speakers
  • Public Lectures
  • Conferences
  • Research Symposiums
It is a very useful app and program for the institution, but with the arrival of many different online videoconferencing programs with much more features and customizable integration with our networks and existing infrastructure, it can seem a bit more likely for the institution to pursue those alternatives if the pricing is more attractive. However, Bluejeans has been quite useful and like by many of the users at the institution.

Evaluating BlueJeans Events and Competitors

  • Price
  • Product Features
  • Product Usability
The most important feature was the usability with the features. As the primary use for this service was for lecture videos, the presence of recording and screen sharing features that were easy to use was very paramount in the decision to choose BlueJeans. In addition, the ability to integrate it with our existing licenses for Canvas and Kaltura was also very important.
We would look at a more comprehensive set of features such as sharing, pre-selecting breakout rooms, and more customizable features specific to our institution. Likewise, we would consider other alternatives and try to compare their pricing and features relative to BlueJeans when evaluating the decision in which program to pursue.
