A solid OS and third party app patching solution
Overall Satisfaction with Automox
We primarily use Autmox as an OS and third party patching solution for all our server/client devices. It gives us peace of mind that our software patching is automated and devices are protected from cyber threats where possible. Set and bespoke reports can be created giving adequate information to senior management on the organisations software patching status. We also roll out worklets centrally through Automox if any mass configurations are needed to devices which effectively replaces the need for Windows Group policy. Automox is our primary RMM tool but the remote control function needs a lot of improving on it's current state.
Pros
- Patching various opearting systems
- Has a wide third party app library it provides updates for
- The worklet catalogue is extensive with worklet tempates that can be used
- Clearly identify problems with worklets on devices by reviewing the main web portal event log or the local device Automox event log.
Cons
- The remote control function is slow and sometimes takes 2 or 3 attempts to establish a connection with the desired device.
- The remote control function does not have end to end encryption which is strange for a security company.
- Cannot easily navigate between users multiple screens when remote controlling - have to zoom in and out of certain areas to work on a particular screen.
- Having an encypted file transfer function built in to the remote control tool would be useful.
- Tool consolidation - we use it as our main RMM tool within the organisation. This is not advisable as some RMM aspects are lacking but we are currently operating this way.
- Eliminated the need for a WSUS server and patching MAC OSX and linux devices manually.
We eliminated the need for security patches to be installed out of hours by dedicted IT personnel. Senior management has better visibilty of the patching status across the organisation with the clear preset and bespoke reports on offer. No longer require a dedicated WSUS server for patching our Windows OS devices. Have more time and resources to invest in other areas of the organisation.
- Dragon RMM (ITarian / Comodo ONE)
Automox definitely has a better GUI and rolling out worklets is far easier to analyse and resolve should there be any problems. Itarian does have the better remote control function that's less clunky and more reliable than that of Automox. Itarian does offer a per device costing so can be more feasable to smaller organisations.
