Overall Satisfaction with Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch
We have some Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch 6900 series switches with 10 GbE SFP+ ports in a distribution topology to concentrate some Dell and Alcatel access switches that we have in some units of the company. The model we use is the OS6900-X20 which has 20 10GbE SFP+ ports. This switch connects to Core Central which is located in the matrix. It is where the multimode and single-mode fibers are concentrated and the trunks of the VLANs are configured to create security and organization of the network.
Pros

- Can be used in Distribution and Core topologies.
- Options with 20, 32 and 48 10GbE SFP+ ports.
- Redundant fans, fonts, and CPU.
Cons
- 24/7 support and warranty come at a higher price. The service is not available in all cities.
- Excellent performance with switching capacity over 600 Gbps.
- Can be easily stacked and managed by software or single IP address.
