We use WatchGuard for our entire company network. The WatchGuard device provides an extra layer of network security by acting as a firewall and content filter, and give us the option of deploying a VPN in the future. By being proactive about security and using a network security appliance like the WatchGuard we reduce the risk posed by hackers and malware.
  • NAT and Port Forwarding
  • Content Filtering
  • Web browser-based configuration
Cons
  • It can be difficult to add domain exceptions to the content filter.
The WatchGuard device is well suited for a home or small to medium business that needs an easy to configure network security solution. The specific model we use may not be suitable for a large network, but I know WatchGuard has a number of models and configurations available.

WatchGuard is being used for our entire organization in multiple physical offices. It provides firewall, routing, IPS/IDS, etc. functions.
  • Easy to use interface.
  • Simple configuration.
  • Timely updates.
Cons
  • Support response time.
  • Further QA testing on definition updates.
  • Command line interface.
WatchGuard is well suited for environments that were looking for an easy-to-use/set up firewall that does not take much prior knowledge to establish a decent setup.

Great features, Simple setup, Easy to use, Solid product

WatchGuard Network Security is an excellent option for SMB in need of a router firewall. Very easy to use and support. The VPN is simply to deploy and maintain. When an issue does arise support is always very helpful. Cloud and local device management is simple and intuitive. Integrates nicely with third party MFA solutions like Cisco DUO. We plan to sell and deploy more of this product going forward for out SMB customers.
  • Ease of Management
  • Simple to Configure
  • Simple VPN
Cons
  • Local User Management
  • Software Update Alerting
WatchGuard Network Security is will suited for SMB where they need a simple but secure firewall with an easy to use VPN. Works nicely to replace other small firewall appliances like the Cisco ASA line. Doesn't feel as competent when you scale too large since it doesnt have a lot of the super high powered filtering and large scale WAN abilities.

WatchGuard's Firebox line provides an easy-to-use and powerful platform in the NGFW space. With the ability to centrally manage and deploy with WatchGuard cloud services and the added visibility of cloud logging and on-premises solutions such as Dimensions this product is a no-brainer in the edge security space. We have been using their products for years and as a partner, we are able to get quick expert support when problems arise. Their forward-thinking approach means there are always new features to get excited about.
  • A traffic monitor is easy to use and allows junior techs to troubleshoot complicated network problems.
  • Client and branch office VPNs are a snap to setup and troubleshoot.
  • Subscription services such as DNS Watch are turnkey.
Cons
  • Security defaults are very lax and need to be adjusted during deployment.
  • Cloud integration does not allow for comanagement between on-prem and cloud environments.
  • There is no integration with their EDR products and the FireBox.
WatchGuard FireBoxes are best suited for smaller to medium businesses that leverage underskilled/junior techs for support such as MSP workers. They offer enterprise-grade equipment however most larger organizations will go with a vendor such as Palo Alto or CIsco. The integration with their other offerings such as Wifi and ATP allows for a consistent user experience but I have found they do not scale well.
