We use it for backups and replication of new clusters - daily backups, tape backups, and backups of remote sites. We typically use this to restore file level deletions that may happen by accident and that has been our bread and butter for our backup and restore process that has been very helpful to our end users.
  • Recovery!
  • Replication!
  • Usability
  • File Level Restore
  • Ability to make system tunings
  • Automated scripting with UPS to hault backups if UPS is too low to provide power
  • More AI integration
  • Less Service Driven for Faster Application Startup
  • Fix problems automatically if a restore chain is corrupted somehow
Restoring full VMs is excellent. I think in the event of a total disaster - Veeam may not be able to handle running everything but that has yet to be seen. That being said - I think veeam has been able to accomodate almost every scenario we've come across and we are very pleased.

We use Veeam to backup our entire organizations data that cannot be easily retrievable or restored otherwise. This includes shared files and documents, entire VMs of domain controllers and other servers and even a few various full computer images for machines that need to be set up in a very specific way. Not every employee in a non-profit industry such as this is incredibly tech savvy. Couple that with the fact that as a non-profit, we generally cannot afford to keep all of our technology on the cutting edge, sometimes things happen and files get lost, or deleted, or corrupted. Veeam has made it a breeze for me to restore those files, systems or virtual machines with the click of a couple of buttons. This saves potentially weeks or months of work being lost due to a small mistake or a large catastrophic failure. And with the replication feature, it's easy to save multiple copies of the backed up files, as well as keep multiple iterations of the backups going back a specific amount of time. This software has saved my life (and quite possibly my job) dozens of times over the years and I am extremely pleased at having made the decision to move to it when I did.
  • Virtual Machine restores. Whether a full over-write, being moved to a new location, or a live restore, it's quick and easy.
  • Ease of browsing for individual files that may need to be restored due to a minor mistake.
  • Very easy to test restores to make sure everything is still working.
  • The UI isn't terrible, but it could definitely be better.
  • The initial opening of the software takes several minutes, and could potentially be optimized for faster loading.
  • In-program tutorials to help walk new people through processes that can get complicated.
If you need relatively easy to setup and forget backups to go to multiple places, this is the best bet, hands down. If you need to get into things a little more complicated, it can get tricky as you will most likely have to turn to the internet to figure out exactly how something needs to be done.

The use of Veeam Software is mostly for the backup of bare servers and workstations, with the possibility for versioning and the use of deduplication.
It's very simply to use and the most import part is that the recovery works
  • Restoring Capability
  • Deduplication
  • Easy
  • cost
  • immutable backups against ransomware
  • weight, it's uses SQL Server
The Veeam Software is versatility in nature, it could be use standalone, at home, for backup up the personal computer to an external storage device.
And it could be use at very large enterprise with great volume and workload of backups

Veeam has proven to be a fairly intuitive backup software that is much easier to use than some competing products. The software is user-friendly and is incredibly helpful in file recovery situations that require fast resolution. Our company replaced an outdated software with Veeam and are pleased with the results that we have seen even in just a few months we have been using their service. Veeam Back & Replication is our enterprise-wide backup product. We use it to backup all of our production servers, running Windows and Linux. We also use it to backup Oracle and SQL Databases and a number of other applications that are critical to our organization's needs. Both locally and at our remote sites. We have recently implemented Cloud storage in which the ability to do so was included within our current pricing model
  • Quick Backups
  • Easy to configure
  • Good Support & Training modules
  • Better reporting for all jobs
Had a number of server failures that we have used Veeam to restore, this has been a simple vm recovery process where downtime had to be kept to the minimum, and restores complete successfully and we were able to get back to production Guest file restore while it is a common use, is easily overshadowed (no pun intended) by shadow copies, an integrated solution into windows file servers with the same features would be interesting too see

Veeam Data Platform serves our need for maintaining backups of our systems and facilitating the recovery of those systems should a Disaster Recovery situation arise. The wide variety of recovery options allows us to recover full systems down to individual files that a user accidentally deletes or becomes corrupted.
  • Elastic recovery to recover only what is needed whether it's a single file or a full system/servers
  • Allow for immutable storage
  • Integration with virtual platforms and some SAN providers directly
  • Allow for a Backup and Replication to occur in one job
  • Allow for further flexibility with data retention such as allowing some servers in a job different retention than others or changing in retention over time. Example is backup daily for 7 days, then store a weekly backup for 8 weeks, monthly backup for 13 months, etc. all within the job.
  • More communication about platform updates. Many new features come out and we are not aware until a little further down the road.
I think Veeam Data Platform is a great platform for almost all businesses. The only businesses that I would not recommend it for are small businesses that may not have an IT staff to manage the solution or don't have enough infrastructure to justify the expense of an Enterprise grade solution. In those cases I would recommend either a managed solution or a simple backup solution.

We use Veeam to backup our physical storage/website servers and planning to expand it also to VMs. Being able to create bootable media for the restore process is a big plus in case of hardware failure and using Veeam Backup & Replication will help also to restore physical servers into VMs. The Managementment application allows it with a very easy-to-use interface to manage backup jobs and monitor their progress and failures. In addition to the "on-demand" monitoring, we also integrated the Veeam job results into our check_mk based monitoring to have instant notifications in case a backup job didn't complete successfully. With the ongoing development of Veeam, they also rolled out a lot of interesting features with the latest V11 to backup databases (Oracle / MS SQL).
  • Easy to use front end to manage Backup jobs efficiently and review problems during job execution
  • Restore capabilities of physical servers to VMs or other physical machines with ease (including bootable media)
  • Snapshot support and restoring them with just a couple of mouse clicks
  • More API support to connect directly to external monitoring services/applications
  • Support more DBMS natively
  • More Deployment options of the server software to prepare setups that are brought to the customer
We like the restore options from physical servers to VM's which saves a lot of time to replace legacy hardware with future-proof VMs. Driver and legacy boot issues are easily resolved with the tools Veeam provides. Not so good is the support of non-natively supported DBMS like MariaDB (MySQL natively supported). If more DBMS would be supported it would make it easier for customers with not so mainstream databases.

I use Veeam Data Platform to backup multiple VMs on multiple servers to a NAS and then out to a cloud repository for another level of protection. Veeam Data Platform is very easy to setup and to administer. They also have very good technical support. To say the least, I am very happy with Veeam Data Platform. It would have been nice if I had found them (or they found me) years ago but I am glad we are partnered now.
  • Backs up VMs
  • Moves backed up VMs from NAS to cloud backup partner
  • Monitoring / reporting of successes and failures of all actions
  • Sometimes the error messages are a bit ambiguous requiring tech support to clarify.
  • Not every scheduled backup works 100%. That said, I let it roll as the following one typically will.
I do not know about less appropriate but as far as well suited, Veeam Data Platform does an outstanding job with VM backup and restoration. Early on I had need to rebuild a server with four VMs and I was relying on Veeam Data Platform to come through and oh boy did it! Restoration was only a few clicks and quicker than I could have ever hoped for. If I had Veeam Data Platform / this version anyway some years ago, it would have paid for itself tenfold. My message to anyone with VMs: Get Veeam Data Platform!

We use VEEAM for backing up our virtual machines as well as physical machines using VEEAM Agent. We also make use of the "Backup copy" to get the opportunity to take air-gapped backups. Additionally we suffer from a small bandwith compared to the machine sizes. VEEAM does do a good job compressing backups.
  • Central platform for all device backups.
  • Possibilities to perform a fast restore of data and machines.
  • Create a test environment out of a production environment easily on demand.
  • Data compression
  • Postgres database
  • Easy migration between servers
  • Performance could be better sometimes.
  • Error logs sometimes lead to wrong directions.
  • Combination of VEEAM Agent Free and Paid to better fit the demand.
  • Could be more stable using NAS as backup targets
  • Some settings are only configurable using registry keys
Even for small companies VEEAM offers a great all in one solution for most of our scenarios, e.g. getting some machines backed up over an internet connection with 100 MBit/s without blocking the whole connection. The restore of a specific data file is well implemented even a restore of files based on a linux system are possible on windows. Now using a postgres database you have a database with a smaller footprint compared to MSSQL.

We use Veeam Data Platform for Microsoft Windows as our backup solution for our Windows servers. It is extremely stress free to setup and we check the control panel every other day to determine how long backups are taking, if backups are successful, and if there is a new version of the software. Our previous backup solution was extremely buggy and we could not depend on it.
  • Easy to install and setup
  • Dependable backup solution
  • Easy to maintain
If one wants a dependable, well supported backup solution for Windows servers and workstations, Veeam Data Platform for Windows is the perfect solution instead of dealing with buggy, resource hog backup solutions.

We use Veeam Data Platform for our server backups. Both whole OS backups and file server file system backups. We had been using Microsoft's DPM but it kept giving us issues so we switched even though DPM was included in our System Center subscription.
  • Integrates well with 3rd party cloud backups particularly Wasabi which is very cost effective.
  • Allows you to send secondary backups to multiple locations like other disk, cloud, etc.
  • Sends good reporting emails when there is a failure.
  • Their tech support has been much more helpful and knowledgeable than Microsoft's was for DPM.
  • It could always be cheaper.
I think it's important to go with something proven and reliable since backups are so critical to any organization's health.

We use Veeam Data Platform Backup and Replication for server backups and replicas. We have nightly backups and archiving setup for each server. We also have some archives being sent to an off-site NAS. We also use the Veeam ONE Monitor software to keep track of each of our server's resources. We get alerted for any errors and warnings via email. All of the software is integrated via VMware Vsphere.
  • Backups
  • Archives
  • Resource Monitoring
  • Notifications
  • SQL Table recovery -- you are not able to restore a single table if it is above a certain size. Restoring a whole (large) database is very cumbersome.
  • Some notifications are less important and could probably be ignored. More notification configurations would be helpful here.
  • There is a slight learning curve to the interface/UI for Backups. It is fine once you learn it but confusing at first.
Veeam Data Platform is great for any company using VMware and looking for a cheap software. The cost of the software and maintenance is a major selling point for our company. Veeam Data Platform, at least the version we have, would be less appropriate for a very large company. In my opinion, a larger company would benefit from something a little more robust and a quicker setup.

We recently implemented VEEAM to backup all of our physical and virtual servers. It addresses our auditor's needs.
  • Restores to virtual machine fairly quickly.
  • It sends us malware reports.
  • Talking to support has not been extremely helpful. Some technicians are not sure of how to navigate our issues.
It is well suited for backing up data and restoring it, but sure backup could use some attention. It is a good idea, but we have been having issues with it and support is not very helpful in my opinion.

We use it to back up servers at regular intervals and for on demand backups before performing upgrades to roll back from in the event of failure. We regularly test our backups and have had the "opportunity" to restore from backups numerous times and never had any failed recoveries. We've also run servers directly from their backup images and transitioned them, live, back to production.
  • Backups
  • Managing those backups/scheduled tasks
  • Restoring from backups
  • Running backups live from those backups
  • Software support is great; the few times we've ever needed them they've pulled through
  • A change to the interface for mounting then recovering individual files or folders feels clunky but it's the only complaint about the software. It works, the process just isn't as smooth as I'd like.
  • An inline product update from an update button rather than going to the Veeam page to download a new setup file would be pretty slick, not a deal breaker by any means though
  • It would be pretty neat to have an inline tech support data upload, provide a ticket number and have the support upload go directly to Veeam rather than taking that archive file and uploading it to the ticket via the web portal
We have a small deployment with a handful of physical hosts and two dozen or so virtual servers. It's been a perfect fit for us to manage all those backups and to restore entire systems from or even pull specific files/folders from a backup as needed if just a few things need changed/rolled back.

We utilize Veeam Backup and Replication version 12 in our organization. We also use Veeam Azure Backup and Recovery. We backup our on premises servers to an onsite storage appliance and Azure cloud. We backup our Azure servers to the Azure cloud. We are planning on purchasing Veeam O365 backup soon.
  • Unified backup solution using one console.
  • Many different restore options.
  • Many different backup options.
  • Console takes some getting used to.
  • SOBR is somewhat complex to set up.
  • Backups take a fair bit of time, but this might be expected.
Personally, I have had an excellent experience with Veeam Data Platform. Immutable backups are an important feature that we use. The ability to restore an on premises server to the cloud is also a great feature. I had some issues getting email notifications to work, but I was able to figure it out.

We use it to back up all of our VMWare Virtual Machines to 3 separate backup repository. This allows up to restore files that have accidentally been deleted. The main business problems the product addresses, though, is disaster recovery and ransomware protection. We have also used Veeam Data Platform to migrate VMs from 1 set of VMWare hosts to another.
  • Ease of recovery with file level restores.
  • Application aware backups for Exchange and SQL servers.
  • Ability to set backup windows and schedule backups based on other backups finishing.
  • Slightly confusing license management.
  • Sometimes has delays when loading file level backups.
  • No ability to update from within the software.
Veeam Data Platform is ideal for doing full virtual machine backups from VMWare to an external repository. It also supports cloud backups. I like that it has the ability to easily backup to external hard drives for air-gapped backups. Natively support using Linux for backup proxies and immutable backups. Also can be used for bare metal backups with additional license.

We use it to create backup images of our virtual servers to a local NAS and restore them (or, more rarely, individual files) should we encounter any trouble.
  • Highly configurable
  • Dependable
  • Backups
  • UI update interval (like charts, copy speed update) is a bit slow.
  • Starting backups takes a while, doesn't really explain what it's doing.
  • Backups fail/warn for a lot of misc reasons, so a lot of time is spent diagnosing these (like the dreaded "Failed to index guest file system. VSSControl: Index failed").
I would recommend Veeam to somebody with a similar environment who needs to take backups of their VMs or even physical servers and be able to restore those directly in the event of a server crash.

We use it for backup and backup copy for a Hyper-V environnement.
The free lifetime version is a great opportunity to test it for company with low I.T. budget.
The backup copy functionality is very useful.
The backup explorer is easy to use to restore quickly a simple file.
  • The free community version
  • Backup hyper-V
  • Compress backup
  • Backup copy fonction.
  • adding a group of usb disk easier
  • To have the possibility to back up VmWare workstation player like a Hyper-V!!
  • Have an option to buy Veeam definitely not at month.
Good point:
A good back up software with huge documentation!
Not easy to use the first time without help.
The free community edition, very usefull.

Bad point:

Veeam Backup & Replication allows us to backup our data in a secure & logical way, giving us peace of mind that should any files get accidentally deleted, or if there is an issue with a virtual machine, we have the means to restore to when it was last working correctly.

We also link in our backups with Veeam Cloud Connect, for secure, off-site backup, as part of our backup procedure.
  • Provides a comprehensive, yet easy to navigate user interface.
  • Lowers workload with automated backup scheduling.
  • Easy integration with Veeam Cloud Connect for secure, off-site backup.
Veeam Backup & Replication has been tried & tested in the Education sector & I personally recommend it.
Whilst it's slightly more expensive than some of the other backup competitors, it's not the most expensive & I feel you really do get your moneys worth.
Especially with the flexibility of the various add-ons you can integrate with it as a platform.

I use Veeam to protect my company's Servers and Workstations. I make a daily backup of everything and am able to recover lost data thanks to the incremental copy. I also make a copy of my 365 email with the Veeam utility for Microsoft 365. With some client equipment I have had to recover the entire system image on a new hard drive and everything without problem.
  • backup speed
  • ease configuration
  • successful data recoveries
  • I don't like getting alerts that the copy failed and then seeing that it succeeded
  • I would like it to be translated into Spanish

We use Veeam Backup and Recovery mainly for server-level and file-level data protection. Being able to simply mount a backup image in order to recover a file or validate that operating system level backups are working as intended is monumentally important and gives us back valuable time that lesser backup solutions cannot. Veeam also makes it insanely easy to keep copies of backup data offsite at our other locations and the in the cloud with integrated, automated jobs that do all the work for us. I also love the fact that we can backup on one platform and restore to another (like HyperV to VMWare). We plan on using that feature in the future for a migration. Veeam support is top notch as well. Any support tickets I have get addressed by support techs that know the product inside and out.
  • Immutable backups to protect against ransomware
  • Easily integrate jobs that create copies of your data offsite or in the cloud
  • Explore backed up files from the image
  • Test OS level backups straight from the backup image
  • I honestly can't think of anything
Veeam is great for proving to auditors that your backup are trust-worthy. When you can start up a virtual server from the backup file running in memory in under 10 minutes, it is pretty darn impressive. We have also used it to take a full take a backup of a production virtual server while it was running in under 5 minutes, so we could restore it (off-network) for testing against production.
