Use Cases and Deployment Scope

A consolidated web enabled space for for students to do their studies. The interaction between students and professor can be more easily adapted to the electronic lifestyle on a platform that makes itself readily available for people and faculty on the move. Having the class material as a digital asset makes it easy to share.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Connect provides access to digital materials for teachers and students. There are also family materials available to assist parents/guardians in helping their students be successful. Teachers can also assign pre-made or custom created assignments to students. Connect is the go-to companion for physical curriculum components. Assignments give students instant feedback on correct/incorrect responses and level of understanding. For my use Connect also connects with NWEA to provide expectations for student understanding going into a new unit.

Cons

  • Very basic integration with Google classroom. (Link to MH Connect)
  • No Test editor/creater
  • Difficult to edit assignments
  • Difficult to navigate user interface
  • Short auto-logout period

Return on Investment

  • Updated curriculum to something that meets CCSS (Common Core)
  • Unified 6-12 math curriculum
  • Family access that wasn't available with prior curriculum.

Pros

  • The login process is reasonably stable.
  • It may have some dynamic abilities for instructions and types of lessons. Maybe.

Cons

  • The ebook is not a real ebook, it's really just a web page, or a series of webpages. It can only be accessed through MH Connect, therefore, when logging into the system. A real eBook would be able to be accessed as such-- on a Kindle or other e-Reader, or on a desktop eBook reader. The interface for this is also not very dynamic, just kind of obnoxious and Web 1.0.
  • Limited learning tools beyond simple exercises, at least from what I saw.
  • Terrible customer service. Long wait times with representatives who do not seem to understand their own product and cannot seem to answer very basic questions.
  • Hard to get resolution for basic problems.

Return on Investment

  • Wasted valuable time trying to figure out the "eBook."
  • Did not receive good value for the money spent.
  • Did not feel as though the company was interested in keeping me satisfied as a customer, or like their customer service was actually interested in solving any problems.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use McGraw-Hill Connect as a homework management and student assessment platform. McGraw-Hill provides all inclusive access for students so they have access to all materials on day 1.

  • Reliable system
  • Good and updated content

Cons

  • They could expand the collections of their assessment questions/problems.

Return on Investment

  • It allows me to track and evaluate students performance
  • It provides me with insight and summary of overall class as well as individual students performance
  • My students find it easy to use and to learn from

McGraw-Hill Connect is Integration at its Finest

Pros

  • Integration with Canvas is seamless and easy to use.
  • Assignment completion, for students, is straightforward and easy to use.
  • The SmartBook allows students to read as they are tested with questions and this helps them learn the material easily without having first trying to read, memorize a chapter and then answer questions.

Cons

  • We have a trust relationship with another college and the Canvas integration doesn't always work well for them.
  • Offline access to the ebook would be nice.
  • A process with fewer clicks to "relink" assignments from previous semesters.

Return on Investment

  • McGraw-Hill Connect is the best publisher we have in terms of pricing. They are willing to work with us on our dual credit programs and in getting solutions tailored to our needs.
  • Students who are not tech-savvy have some trouble registering accounts and using the software.
  • Tech support is very responsive and helpful. They provide onsite training for faculty and students when needed.
