Overall Satisfaction with AlphaSense
It is the Google of equity research; its ability to search for specific information about a company/list of companies at one hub makes it stands out. I use it for searching primary source data in financial modeling.
- Variety of source
- Accurate and timely information feed
- Ability to search for information in a relative basis
- Highlight of search words in results
- Layout; sometimes hard to preview
- Inability to generate all company info; e.g. slide from WEBCAST
- Slow when generating results ; often take 2-3 min even to just preview a 10k
- Ability to search via list of companies
- Variety of data source
- Up to date info
- Number of publication increases
- Quality of research report increases; for instance, can do more industry base rather than single name recommendation due to AlphaSense's strong capability to search via lists
- Readership of reports increase due to more timely info provided by AlphaSense
Over the last two years, our team has been aware of the new key data and fresh insights featured on AlphaSense, and we have been utilizing this key feature to boost our efficiency to get to know a new company that needs to be analyzed. For instance, when conducting a new convertible issuance, it used to take at least one or two days to conduct the primary research for modeling. However, with the new key data and fresh insights from thousands of credible sources, now our team can assess and conduct the company's valuation at a rate of 30min per company. This translates into less than a month to fundamentally cover the entire small & mid cap universe, i.e., 500-600 companies.
AlphaSense is getting close to Bloomberg Terminal, yet still not yet there, as I have pointed out earlier. By market intelligence, Bloomberg Terminal can conduct more tasks than simple information search. For instance, they have teams of industry coverage or AI to conduct some routine analysis. If I have to suggest, I would say AlphaSense could expand more from the AI side to conduct periodic reports, e.g., earnings, industry trends, market alerts, etc., which can directly compete with Bloomberg.
