What is Adobe Connect?
Adobe Connect is a web conferencing platform that provides standard features like video, audio, screen-sharing, polls, chat, Q&A, and document transfers, as well as the ability for users to create presentations, online training materials, and learning modules.
The product is entirely Adobe Flash-based and has several add-ons for customizing its software to suit each users’ unique needs. Some extensions that are available include, but are not limited to, Closed Captioning support, Word Cloud (for visualizing live discussions), and MP3 player for adding music to users’ meeting rooms.
Users can create or style their own meeting room layouts which can be saved. They can also add multiple chat pods, polls, quizzes, simulations, breakout rooms, HD video, and games to make meetings and online conferencing more interactive. Additionally, Adobe Connect allows for presenters and hosts to utilize a “virtual backstage” to chat and collaborate outside of the main meeting or conference. It also allows for users to go into a “preparation mode” to make adjustments right before or during a session.
Pricing for Adobe Connect Meetings ranges from $50/mo up to $370/mo. Additional webinar capabilities through Adobe Connect Webinar ranges $140/mo to $580/mo, from a webinar with 100 participants to one with up to 1000 participants.

Engage and Collaborate from Anywhere and Everywhere
- Love how you can create custom layouts ahead of time and seamlessly change from one to another during a session.
- There are so many creative ways to use the whiteboard features.
- Being able to keep participants in one layout while you go into other layouts and make changes, updates, etc. has been incredibly helpful.
- The breakout rooms have endless use cases.
- I wish Adobe provided the audio directly to the customer rather than requiring an outside telecom provider be selected if you want audio beyond VOIP.
- It's nice to be able to upload PPT presentations into a share pod, but if the PPT is more than basic, I find several animations, fonts, etc. are not supported, completely changing the way the presentation comes across. This makes it impossible for me to utilize the feature most of the time and a screen share is the next best option.

Great online training tool
- Ability to conduct online training sessions.
- Ability for users to connect from any location.
- Ability to record.
- It is fairly expensive.
- More online tutorials for admins.
A Solid Platform for Long-Distance Contact
- It is possible to stream a presentation online. There is also the choice of video conferencing. There is no need to download something.
- On this platform, webinars are also very simple, and you can share your laptop in moments.
- It also has a chat feature and the ability to record calls.
- People aren't as familiar with it as they are with other apps.
- Its cost is higher than other apps.
- Our new team members don't understand it quickly.
- Ability to customize the layout of webinar rooms to tailor to my audience.
- Ability to add polls and Q&A.
- Ability to have more than one host at any given time.
- Recording a session isn't very straight forward.
- Tech issues such as participant getting kicked out.
- PowerPoint doesn't translate well through the Adobe Connect platform.

Adobe Connect Review

Adobe Connect- Customized Engagement
- Customized and tailored design and display
- Adobe Captivate functionality
- Layouts Allow for Learning Design and Run of show
- Their closed caption pod has to be connected to an external service
- Users joining via the web are less successful using all of the features.
- Requires planning and design to have the best experience. (Bad for events on the fly)
- The text is tiny. This is on the title of the share pods, and chat and attendee list. I imagine those with visual impairments might struggle.
Training that is interactive and designed are best suited in Adobe Connect. Example Having breakout rooms with different material in each and rotating individuals through each room you can only do in Adobe Connect. You can also have breakout rooms, collaborate via a doc or whiteboard, and then share it in the main meeting so they can present. It really creates a functional space to add the interactivity and engagement that you can do easily in person. If you don't make interactive training, with groups, or polls, and links, and files, you may not need this tool.
Good tool for attending Adobe trainings.
- Chat tool
- Screen Sharing
- No delay
- Very dependent on internet bandwidth
- Audio quality could be better
- Screen Maximization Does Not Occupy Entire Area
Good for meetings, GREAT for virtual training!
- Ability to set up multiple room layouts that "persist" indefinitely. This allows you to set up your room layout as far ahead of time as you'd like and/or re-use layouts over and over again.
- Access to a wealth of add-ons (like clocks, timers, interactive word clouds, random participant selector, etc.), many of which are free.
- A good variety of "pod" types -- different types of surveys, file shares, Q&A, whiteboard (with ability for participants to annotate), etc.
- Multiple ways you can share your screen -- share your whole desktop, share just selected windows, or share just selected applications.
- Ability to have multiple hosts for a meeting and to easily promote a participant to the Presenter or Host role on the fly.
- Breakout rooms, ability to record meetings with options for computer and/or phone audio (including the ability link in external phone conference lines), engagement meters (which, I'll admit, I haven't really used), and, I think, pretty much all of the features that most similar platforms offer.
- Ability to pause webcam, rather than having to stop it and restart it (and, when paused, it shows the last image it was displaying before you paused it).
- For meeting recordings published to the Adobe server, provides a left-hand navigation pane that allows the viewer to jump to different parts of the recording, like each time the layout changes or to the point at which someone typed a particular chat message.
- Ability to email the contents of the chat pods to yourself, both as a host and as a participant.
- No virtual background option
- Without multiple screens, you can't really see the room while you're screen sharing, making it harder (but not impossible) to monitor chat, and, I think, not possible to see others' webcams.
- No "call me" feature.
- Very expensive!
Adobe Connect for All New Employees
- The interface is extremely easy to use. It allows people to come on board and learn it very easily, reducing the learning curve. Specifically, the navigation screen on the interface after logging in has a very simple drop-down menu for you to access and able to choose how you want to use Adobe Connect.
- Adobe Connect DOES NOT drop in terms of internet connection. We have never had situations where the platform glitched or stopped working. For us to keep a simple and easy workflow, it was crucial to find a platform that did not have technical flaws.
- Webinars... there are a lot of webinar software available, however, staying within the Adobe family is important. Adobe makes it easier to use content developed in their other platforms and linking and working with PDFs. Many platforms avoid certain file types of the file sizes make it difficult to navigate and use the tutorials and training documents. With Adobe they have made it easy to accommodate and seemingly keep the file sizes small enough to make it easy to browse and interact with online.
- The Meetings obviously make it easy because one login for ADOBE satisfied the needs of all their platforms, reducing the need to have multiple accounts.
- Room for improvement would be with video. I wish I could cut and combine videos for the presentations. Being able to cut multiple videos together into one clip would be very easy for us. I have not figured out how to do that yet. It seems to be missing that ability.
- A missing function is being able to live poll! I understand they have polling features, but creating live polls that allow us to have meetings and then take a poll during the presentation and allow us to see the results in real-time would be really exciting.
- The mobile app is a large file size to download and does take up a lot of space on mobile phones. It is not as bad on an iPad where you use it more often and do not have as many apps as a personal phone, but the file size is still a bit large and would be the first app to remove if I need storage space.
It is perfectly structured for new employees, tech savvy or not, to learn the software so they can easily participate in virtual meetings, trainings or reviewing documents needed. It could be less useful in small businesses with 20 or fewer employees where face to face interaction and the need for more hands-on meetings and discussions are important. However, even with small businesses, I doubt you want employees wasting time, so using Adobe Connect, especially if you already use other Adobe products, would help.
Disconnect with Adobe Connect
- It has a nice interface.
- It allows for multiple people to be on a video at the same time.
- We found the customer support to be lackluster. When we first transitioned to the platform, we had a LOT of technical difficulties. It proved EXTREMELY challenging to get someone from Adobe Connect to troubleshoot with us or attend a webinar with us so that they could experience what we were experiencing.
- We had troubles with the audio. Some of our learners take webinars at their desks via laptops with VOIP audio; others take webinars by dialing in through their mobile phones. If both VOIP and mobile were used to access the platform, the virtual breakout room functionality was not available. This may or be not be related to the way our firm's telephony is set up. We couldn't get a clear answer on this from either our internal technologists or Adobe's technologists.
Meetings and Webinars with Adobe Connect
- Adobe Connect allows simultaneous connections and the moderator has control as the room administrator, participants can not intervene if the moderator does not authorize it.
- Adobe Connect supports a wide variety or types of files, making it a very robust application.
- Adobe Connect offers multiple deployment options to ensure the right solution for the company, has a very easy to use interface.
- Adobe Connect must improve its implementation in the mobile part, since its operation in these devices is very limited.
- I would like to be able to paste an image on the board and get better results when I paste a text, sometimes I have difficulties to adjust all the pods I want to use on the screen (discussion, chat, video, area to share).
- I would like that Adobe Connect had a little more functionality, that is, that you could play music in the lobby, serial a great compliment for this application.
Adobe Connect - Training NOT just meeting
- Provides several options for participant interaction
- Manages and maintains content and room layouts
- Customizable and flexible set up and delivery
- Multiple Hosts
- True Breakout room capabilities
- Still too difficult to get participants up and running on connection to a meeting
- Still uses flash which blocks access to content or to access to a meeting
- Steep learning curve
- A few glitches and idiosyncrasies that need experience to address
Function and Form with a Learning Curve
The product allows us to provide live customer-facing demonstrations of new technology. We're able to send a quick link and easily screencast and conference with customers across the country.
- All of my Adobe presentations look extremely professional. The ability to import files that I've created in other programs allows me to utilize different design tools and bring their best elements with me.
- Breakout rooms are excellent for taking a large class and separating them into smaller groups where they can collaborate and then come back to the large group experience. This is vital for us in building a virtual learning space that people are actively engaged in.
- Simple interface for starting cameras and microphones. We've used some other products that needed their own manual for turning on a webcam. This is a simple click and even provides a preview before anything goes live. This is in addition to a splash screen when you enter a meeting that will walk all new users through the process, saving the presenters time.
- Our biggest complaint is always the lag in VoIP conferencing. It seems to fluctuate, but we can have as much as 5-7 seconds of delay at times. This can be a quick way to stifle any discussion that might be taking place. This ends up with a lot of people talking over one another.
- First-time users sometimes have issues getting the program to open. There is an initial download to get the meeting rooms open and if it doesn't happen automatically, we need to instruct users to try and rejoin the meeting. This isn't a difficult step, but it can prove to be annoying when working with 30-50 new users at one time.
One of the best
- Share screens with good quality resolution.
- Interactive since you can have quality live interaction with clients.
- Not heavy on the system. It is not demanding on your PC.
- No comment at this time here. I feel it offers the complete package.
- Design flexibility, moving "pods" of information around, hiding them, changing the look of the meeting room to best keep the attention of the attendees.
- Completely audio conference agnostic.
- Stores info from meeting to meeting so clients can access info from past sessions easily.
- Difficult to track down support; once you do they are helpful but their website is far too vast and getting a person on chat or phone is tricky.
- Reporting is lacking.
- At that time, Connect was the most accessible webcasting tool available due to the ubiquity of Adobe Flash. All other webcasting tools were very difficult for participants.
- The ability for web hosts to customize the screen layout.
- Meeting rooms persist and can be prepared in advanced and reused for webcasting a series of events.
- I am concerned but also unaware of the future of Connect with regards to web browsers banning Adobe Flash.
- Connect Training in version 8 would have been better if there were a way to identify employee/supervisor relationships so that supervisors could monitor employee learning.
- Connect Training in version 8 could have used a better training summary for users to understand what training they needed to complete.
Adobe Connect in Higher Learning
PROS
Fairly easy to use, great mobile/tablet app and they host all your recordings
CONS
It's flash based which seems a bit of a concern to me - we've had issues in the past with conference line integrations to the point I advise people not to even bother with a conference line (it's an antiquated technology anyway). We're still pushing to get the ability to save our session recordings locally as MP4 files. I believe this feature is coming soon but ADOBE Is taking way too long. It should have been a basic feature from day 1.
Setting up meetings is particularly complicated compared to other tools. The UI could use an update too. It looks like late 90's version of Windows.
ALTERNATIVES
We looked at other options such as Zoom Meeting, GoToMeeting, Google Hangouts, Skype, Collaborate etc. But they were all either missing key features or the pricing structure was just insane.
- Polling
- Lots of 3rd party add ons available
- desktop sharing
- User Interface is dated
- Setting up meeting is cumbersome, many of our instructors get confused by it
- Being able to download recording to local computer is way over due
Blackboard Collaborate is headed in the right direction but they're not there yet.
Adobe Connect - The Luxury Car of Collaboration Tools
- Adobe Connect doesn't require a download for participants, so getting customers, partners, vendors and other users into our meetings, webinars and virtual classrooms is easy. We deal with a lot of locked down, security conscious, agencies and company's so this is huge for us. We don't have to worry if someone is on a MAC or a PC, or what browser they are using, they just click a link and get in.
- The meeting rooms we create are persistent, so we can use the same virtual meeting space over and over. We can customize the URL's so that the people we invite come to the same place every time we meet. And the room is always how we last left it which is nice when you have a weekly recurring meeting.
- Security is important to our company, so having SSL encryption and the ability to turn on/off certain features is essential. We can also set permissions as to who and how users can access our meeting rooms.
- The campaign tracking and lead qualification features of the webinar module allow us to see how well we are driving leads from different sources. We can analyze how user view our events and where they exit the registration process to help us improve our marketing content and verbiage.
- The training module is great and provides a lot of analytics, but the reporting could be updated to a fresher look, especially when exporting data into a spreadsheet.
- The webinar module can do a lot of great things, but it does have a learning curve. Streamlining the process to make it more intuitive would be a nice change.
- There is a ton of cutomization that can be done from a branding perspective, but there are a few places where you are locked into Adobe's verbiage and it would be nice if everything could be branded the way we want it.
Adobe Connect for Education and Training
- Deliver and track HR/Compliance Training
- Support Online Meetings for employees
- Support Online Meetings for students in their classes
- Deliver and Track content

- Direct integration with our Learning Management System, BlueQuill

- It is difficult to get resolutions to issues from Adobe directly
- The automatic reminders and email functions work inconsistently - known issue
- Reporting features work inconsistently - known issue
- Although there is a high-level of granularity with the configuration and permissions, there are a number of permissions that are locked down that we would like to have been able to configure.
Through much research and testing, we were able to integrate Adobe Connect with our LMS for auto-creation of course sections and meetings. So, it is possible to customize the implementation.
